Mechanical Design Engineer - Uber Elevate

About the Role

The Mechanical Design Engineer will design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for battery packs for electric aircraft.

What You'll Do

  • Design mechanical parts and assemblies for battery packs for electric aircraft
  • Perform analysis (structural, thermal, tolerance) to facilitate intelligent design decisions
  • Develop and fabricate functional prototypes and test methods to vet out new design concepts
  • Create formal documentation of 2D and 3D designs of components and assemblies
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers to develop and bring parts and assemblies to production
  • Create test plans, execute tests, and generate reports to verify performance of existing designs against product requirements

What You'll Need

  • Minimum 5 years experience working as a Mechanical Design Engineer or similar role
  • BS, MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree
  • Experience designing parts/assemblies in CAD (NX, Catia, or Solidworks) and creating 2D drawings
  • Able to perform analysis or run simulations to guide design decisions
  • Experience taking product/project from concept through mass production
  • Hands-on--comfortable in a machine shop and/or lab environment
  • Experience testing mechanical parts/assemblies (planning, executing, and reporting)
  • Detail-focused--sweats the details and has a passion for elegant design
  • Strong technical communication--able to summarize complex technical concepts and data
  • Experience in any of the following areas:
    • Batteries or other electromechanical systems
    • Thermal systems
    • Structures
    • High-volume manufacturing processes (e.g. stamping, injection molding)
    • Composites
    • Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

Bonus Points If

  • Passion for transportation
  • Experience on student vehicle project (e.g. Solar Car, Formula SAE Electric) or similar
