About the Role
As the Head of Safety Public Policy, you are Uber's connection between our market-leading technology that provides flexible, reliable economic opportunities for over 4 million people around the world and a unique and growing audience of policymakers, regulators, researchers, key opinion formers and the broader public. You are a key thought leader and conduit for Uber's public affairs and government relations around the world.
In this role, you will lead a small team to drive global public policy development on all of Uber's strategies and practices across road and traffic safety, interpersonal safety, and women's safety. You and your team will work closely with teams across Uber's legal, operations, product, engineering, compliance, and research organizations to deliver a comprehensive, rigorous, high-quality, and impactful safety strategy for Uber that covers different lines of business and modes of transportation. You will work closely with policy, communications, and marketing teams across the globe to develop Uber's safety policy positions, support globally-relevant research plans, and build impactful programs with external partners.
Your work will focus on educating and building support with key policy and research stakeholders both directly and through supporting local teams in-region. This will include building and maintaining strong relationships with a wide network of third party experts and partners, executing educational campaigns, and promoting all of Uber's safety efforts with policy stakeholders.
What You'll Do
Lead a small team of safety experts that focus on specific topics including but not limited to interpersonal safety, women's safety, and road and traffic safety
Work with Uber's teams at HQ and globally to lead public policy strategy for safety
Translate expectations of policymakers, politicians, experts, advocacy organizations into actionable advice for product and business teams and advise leadership--including C-Suite--on business practices and corporate strategy that impact safety
Be an external advocate and represent the company at conferences, symposia, and other events
Set strategy for external relationships with third party experts and researchers, advocacy organizations, and NGOs including through:
Developing partnerships and supporting research that inform and advance our policy efforts
Holding regular check-ins with key stakeholders to develop content, measure sentiment, and identify areas where we can improve
Organizing and managing events, roundtables, and user forums including educational seminars in each major mega-region
Serve as the go-to resource for global policy teams on all safety topics and support local policy and communications teams in their engagement and advocacy efforts with the media, regulators and other key external stakeholders
Partner with local policy teams to build strategies and campaigns that promote best-practice regulations that benefit users and cities across the globe
What You'll Need
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in government, an NGO or advocacy organization, or corporation
Experience leading a team, working with or in large and complex organizations, technology companies, and/or in safety-related fields is strongly preferred
Ability to work with and manage a wide variety of cross-functional internal stakeholders and ability to build trust and relationships with external stakeholders
Very strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work on deadline
Track record of project design, management, and execution.
Knowledge of subject matter and relevant experts and stakeholders, particularly traffic safety, cycling safety, women's issues, and law enforcement
Demonstrated analytic capabilities to identify policy trends, assess business impacts, and creatively problem solve
Ability to travel, often at short notice, and to represent Uber as a spokesperson
Experience working with or in corporations, the technology sector, or large organizations is strongly preferred
