About the Role

As the Head of Belgium (Rides) you will be the linking pin between our Belgian business strategy, our operations and functional teams (marketing, policy, communications, legal), our key stakeholders (regulators, government officials, business communities, drivers and riders, etc) and our other business units (EATS, JUMP, etc).

You will support and grow our existing business, support potential launches of new cities, coordinate reform processes, and work on our general business strategy, as well as regulatory and compliance challenges. You will also help our teams to develop and nurture critical relationships in the cities for Uber that will grow our business, raise our profile and shift perceptions across a fast growth sub-region. Last but not least, you will be the face of Uber in Belgium in the media and other local stakeholders.

As part of this role, you will also be a key member of the Benelux leadership team (reporting into the Benelux GM), contributing to overall Benelux business strategy and management.

We are looking for someone who can drive impact by leveraging cross-functional and cross-regional resources and combining those with a team of dedicated sub regional operational experts. You should be passionate about improving the experience of riders, drivers and external stakeholders and optimise our Rides business for long term sustainable growth. You will need to be comfortable moving fast, adapting to change, think innovatively, solve problems at scale and building and maintaining relationships that are important to our business.

Finally, you should be excited by the opportunity to create the right environment for such an efficient and good product, that there will be no need for anyone in our major urban areas to own a private car. Our ultimate goal is moving more people with less cars enabling the cities where we operate to take the space that cars take up and give it back to their citizens.

What You'll Do

  • Be the face of our local business. Engage with regulators and policy-makers together with the Policy team. Build advocacy through maintenance of and partnerships with strong network in business / mobility community. Engage in relevant local speaking opportunities, engage with media through interviews and other interactions, supported by the Comms team.
  • Strategy & Operations. Drive country/city strategy definition and planning. Mobilize and local Benelux and central teams to support strategy execution within the broader Benelux strategic direction.
  • Customer Experience. Be the unrelenting champion of Belgian rider and driver experience. Interface frequently with drivers, riders and our Community Operations teams to surface insights and potential pain points to keep improving the Uber experience.
  • Regulatory & Compliance. Ensure that our business is compliant with local regulations and work across the business to align around any changes required, in close coordination with Legal team. Work closely with the Policy team to understand the details of existing and proposed regulations, identify implications on our business model and develop / align the business around creative options to address these.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration. In order to achieve the biggest impact efficiently you'll need to rely on all parts, functions and knowledge of the Uber business. Interface with local, functional and central teams (Central Ops, Comm Ops, Policy, Legal, Communications), as well as other business units active in Belgium (Eats, JUMP, etc.) and ensure efficient and productive working relationships.
  • Analytics & Optimization. Maintain acute understanding of market conditions (operations & reputation). You will need to understand statistics and be able to interpret analyses and dashboards brought to you by specialised teams (for example marketplace team, driver growth team, marketing team) to inform business decisions and strategic focus

What You'll Need

  • A minimum of 8 years experience in strategy consulting, investment banking or a fast growing start-ups role.
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Outstanding stakeholder management skills with high Emotional IQ - you deal with private and public stakeholders with no problem
  • Stellar cross-functional working skills to build strong working relationships across different functional, central and business teams
  • Experience working as part of a broader Senior Leadership Team
  • Curious and eager to learn - you are interested in all things and can build up skills and knowledge very fast to become a recognized subject matter expert amongst your peers
  • Creative solutions driven mindset, with a get things done attitude
  • A passion for serving drivers, riders and Uber and growing the service across the Belgium
  • Based in Brussels, but willingness to travel between Brussels and our Hub in Amsterdam
  • Fluency in French and Flemish / Dutch
