Frontend Engineer, Airspace Products - Uber Elevate

Frontend, Engineering
in San Francisco, California

About the Role

The Uber Elevate team is working toward transforming the world through aerial ridesharing at scale. We are developing shared air transportation--planned for 2023--between suburbs and cities, and ultimately within cities. The frontend engineer will focus on developing tools for operating Uber Elevate's multimodal aerial ridesharing services.

What You'll Do

  • Develop a deep understanding of multimodal aerial ridesharing operations and optimize the end-user experience.
  • Build applications from the ground up to deliver delightful user experiences for Elevate's Operational workflows.
  • Work in a cross-functional team (engineers, designers, product) to deliver on critical business goals for Elevate.

What You'll Need

  • Deep understanding of UI framework and choices and experience in building UI applications from the ground up.
  • Architecture skills for building full-featured client-side applications using cutting-edge JavaScript technologies including React, Redux, JSX, ES6/7, etc. and other visualization technologies like D3 and OpenGL/WebGL.
  • Expertise in web technologies and APIs (HTTP2, CSS/HTML, Browser JS APIs, WebSockets, etc.).
  • Comfortable working across the stack and understanding how all the pieces fit together (front-end, database, network layer, etc.) and how they impact the performance of your application.
  • Strong design skills and a passion for optimizing for intuitive and responsive layouts and maximizing for utility and efficiency.
  • At least 2+ years of frontend/full-stack development
  • Bias toward action. You believe that speed and quality aren't mutually exclusive. You've shown good judgment about shipping as fast as possible while ensuring your products and platforms are built in a sustainable, responsible way--and you're comfortable making mistakes, provided you learn from them.

Bonus Points If

  • Experience in Uber visualization frameworks like deck.gl, luma.gl, etc. or have closely worked with visualization at Uber.
  • Full-stack development experience in building applications end-to-end.
