Strategy & Planning Associate, Uber Freight - EU

Central Operations, Operations & Launch
in Amsterdam, Netherlands

About the Role:

The Uber Freight business is growing rapidly, and is expanding internationally for the first time. The freight industry in the European Union has a unique set of strategic and operational challenges. In this new market, the Strategy & Planning team is tasked with informing and qualifying decisions with data in order to drive sustainable growth. The projects include geographic expansion throughout the EU, service expansion, business intelligence and visualization, data products, and anything else our team needs to scale as rapidly as possible. As the business grows, we need more and more technical skills in order to serve the business and our teams. This is where you come in.

We are looking for a Strategy & Planning Associate with some serious ops resourcefulness: someone who isn't afraid to jump into the front lines to figure out the business and operational problems, and has the technical skills find or build a better solution; someone who is passionate about driving impact by democratizing data and empowering the team; someone who understands and speaks operations and data equally well.

You will be joining a new team in Uber, helping launch Uber Freight in a new market. Join on the ground floor and help us build the future of freight internationally!

What You'll Do:

  • Strategy: Work closely with the Ops leadership and S&P teams across Europe and U.S. to align and iterate on overall go-to-strategy and vision for freight in the market
  • Planning: Build and maintain financial and headcount models, operational reporting, OKRs, projections, and key business metrics to inform the leadership and the entire org of where the business stands
  • Program/Project Management: Be a resourceful, go-getting multitasker, supporting initiatives across the region by working with cross-functional stakeholders the U.S. and Europe
  • Process Improvement: Identify the biggest operational gaps, inefficiencies, and risks using our internal data and deliver solutions
  • Scale: Build, maintain, and communicate detailed reporting models to assist city-level, regional, and expansion efforts, and make data-driven decisions
  • Develop Relationships: Interface with other functional areas (Engineering, Business Development, People Operations, Product, Legal, Finance, Rides, Eats, Nemo etc.) to ensure efficient and productive working relationships

What You'll Need:

  • A minimum of 3 years' of investment banking / consulting / business intelligence / strategy or related experience; some high-growth operations or startup experience is very much preferred
  • Exceptional Excel / Google suite / data management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and technical ability, SQL proficiency and experience with either R or Python
  • Ability to work with remote teams and across time zones to develop strategies and foster a cohesive and creative work environment
  • Balance attention to detail with swift execution - we need to do things quickly, and we need to do them well
  • Self-starter - the ability to self-serve, investigate and get the data we require will make you much more effective in this role
  • A "driver" personality - biased toward action, great collaborator and master disambiguator/simplifier - constantly pushing toward clarity and delivery
  • Exceptional Excel / Google suite / data management skills. SQL Proficiency highly preferred
  • Grittiness. You never hesitate to roll up your sleeves and address something hands-on, you persevere when others fall away
  • Clear communicator. You are a clear and concise communicator with the ability to synthesize a lot of information quickly, highlight the key takeaways, and disseminate actionable insights

Bonus Points if:

  • Experience in translating and implementing strategic initiatives with prior operations and/or strategy roles
  • Experience in Logistics and/or tech industries preferred
