Full Stack Engineer, Freight Amsterdam

Freight, Engineering
in Amsterdam, Netherlands

About the Role

Uber Freight has expanded to Europe and Amsterdam is the new headquarters for our European operations. We are sourcing an initial tech team to partner closely with our local operations to tackle the challenges in this market, but also in developing a long term charter that will fuel the UF business worldwide. This fullstack team will work closely with our shippers and carriers in Europe, and our engineering team in San Francisco to create the next generation B2B software for customers worldwide. Join us in one of the fastest growing lines of business at Uber!

What You'll Do

  • In the first few months, contribute to growing Uber Freight's presence in Europe by supporting immediate operational needs and making enhancements for regional market specifics.
  • Over the course of Q4-2019, Partner with local product and ops teams to refine the product roadmap, source and develop a tech team that develops features for the world-wide UF platform.
  • Move quickly to build prototypes, run experiments, and prove product value and impact.
  • Work across the stack including databases, backend services, front end, tooling, monitoring, integration and unit testing, and ad-hoc scripting.
  • Work with other engineering teams to ensure standards for engineering excellence, scalability, reliability, and reuse.
  • Help establish the team culture, shaping a team that works collaboratively with other Freight tech teams around the world, while being proud of a local identity.
  • Uphold Freight's project management and test automation processes by promoting Agile and TDD techniques via JIRA and CTF/ITEA.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and build new engineering leaders for the organization.

What You'll Need

  • Experience in working on large-scale distributed systems, data-driven architecture and systems design
  • 5+ years of relevant experience building prototypes, integrations, automations, and software solutions at scale.
  • Demonstrated experience in shipping high-quality product features on schedule
  • Proficiency of a backend stack, including technologies such as Golang, Java, Python, Node.js, and how they interface with technologies such as databases (SQL, NoSQL), Redis, and Kafka.
  • Knowledge of a frontend stack such as Javascript, HTML, CSS, and frameworks such as React, Flux, Redux, or Angular.js.
  • Bias toward action. You believe that speed and quality aren't mutually exclusive. You've shown good judgment about shipping as fast as possible while ensuring your products and platforms are built in a sustainable, responsible way--and you're comfortable making mistakes, provided you learn from them.
  • BS/MS/Phd in Computer Science or a related field required
  • Knowledge of the logistics, freight industry, and enterprise software integrations is a plus

We are currently looking for candidates to join our growing team who share our enthusiasm for tackling today's toughest challenges in transportation.
