Every day riders take over 3 billion trips on Public Transportation, making Mass Transit vastly larger than Ride Sharing. Uber Transit seeks to provide transit agencies and transit riders with the best possible mass transit experience - saving time, reducing costs and gaining efficiencies. That future starts today. The UberTransit team is looking to hire a Strategy & Planning Manager who seeks to change the face of transportation as we know it (again). As a key member of the Transit team, this is a unique opportunity to help build one of Uber's most exciting new initiatives - Transit.

About the Role

As a Strategy & Planning Manager for Uber Transit, you will work directly with the Head of Transit to drive Strategic initiatives and Strategic Planning for the Transit Team - one of the most exciting areas within Uber. You will work closely with leadership in Product, Sales, BD, Marketing, and New Mobilities S&P to help ensure that the core strategy behind key product rollouts is carried out throughout their launch and global scaling.

Leveraging leadership, operational and analytical experience from challenging environments in the past, this role will be instrumental in driving our business forward. This role will work across many functions and teams both locally and internationally. You will champion high priority projects for both transit agencies and transit riders across some of our key markets around the world. The ideal candidate for this role should have strong leadership & relationship skills, a high degree of business intuition and judgement combined with deep analytical rigor, excellent time-management and organizational habits, and the ability to clearly communicate and present information to seek buy-in with stakeholders across functions and levels.

What You'll Do

  • Develop top-level strategy for the transit team with senior leadership; build out our pipeline of long-term innovation by partnering with product teams to work through high potential, complex initiatives.
  • Provide support and consulting for organizational priorities though program leadership, stakeholder partnership, and proactive recommendations.
  • Develop an independent, fact-based perspective on what we should (and should not) be building and why, advocate for your ideas, and learn from successes and failures.
  • Align functions on shared vision, OKRs, KPIs, metrics, financial projections etc. Drive accountability on metrics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across disciplines such as product, engineering, operations, marketing, finance, and business development.
  • Analyze industry trends, competitive threats, expansion opportunities and internal performance.
  • Facilitate business review process through sound strategic planning, including managing the process and business leads, providing guidance, and assessing results.

What You'll Need

  • A true passion for Uber's mission, public transportation and solving the world's largest mobility challenges.
  • A deep background and proven (5+ yr) track record in technology, strategy, and business leadership.
  • Analytically Oriented - approaches problem solving from first principles and combines the best of qualitative and quantitative decision making in an analytical framework; ability to independently analyze complex datasets and create operational and financial models to support decision-making.
  • Expert business skills - knows how to build a business case from scratch and how to present to an executive leadership team.
  • Experienced decision maker - you know when to make decisions quickly with limited information, when to go deep, and can combine both approaches to avoid analysis paralysis while maintaining good decision making.
  • Program Manager extraordinaire - Able to push projects forward to a successful on-time conclusion working with cross-functional (often global) teams.
  • Actionable vision - generates and communicates a compelling long term vision of the future, and also has the ability to connect the present to the future in actionable plans.
  • Master disambiguator/simplifier - constantly pushing toward clarity and delivery.
  • Grittiness - High level of comfort with ambiguity, independence, tenacity, willingness to take on any task
  • Strong communication skills; high degree of comfort with C-level communications and problem solving
  • Challenges assumptions, learns quickly, and adapts continuously. Doesn't care where the truth comes from - not invented here is not a thing
  • Team player - Great collaborator who measures their own success largely in terms of their team's success.
