About the Role

Payments are core to the Uber experience. The policy team supports and advises the Payments team at Uber as it builds the strategic and operational infrastructure required to support Uber at scale across numerous geographies and products. In this role you will join a small team focused on driving the future vision of payments at Uber. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who thrives on ambiguity, has a reputation for extreme thoroughness, and background in financial services, payments policy or other comparable heavily regulated sectors.

You will get a chance to shape a payments public policy team around the world as the role develops over the coming years. You'll work on exciting projects that will position Uber as a thought leader for the digital economy and the future of financial services. You'll also be a key cross-functional partner, working with teams across the company from Communications, Legal, Product and Engineering to your policy colleagues all around the world.

What You'll Do

  • Own, iterate and execute the policy strategy in relation to payments - present and future - all around the world
  • Work with Uber's teams to develop and deliver principled positions in relation to payments and financial services and their impact on our riders and drivers
  • Lead product counsel on policy issues in relation to payment issues including coordinating efforts across the Central policy and local government relations/public affairs teams
  • Plan, develop and execute policy initiatives and campaigns that advance Uber policy goals and those of our users

What You'll Need

  • 8+ years of experience in payments, financial services, digital marketplaces, consumer protection and project management
  • Strong interpersonal (verbal + written) skills
  • Strong industry knowledge - an understanding of internet technologies, financial services , payments and the key policy issues across the sector
  • Rigorous, and process-oriented person who thrives in collaborating with cross-functional teams and yet able to execute complex tasks independently
  • Decisive, with excellent judgment, capable of making smart decisions in the face of ambiguity and imperfect information
  • A superb communicator and writer, adept at working with lawyers, regulators, engineers, business teams, and colleagues to make complex concepts clear and understandable

About the Team

The Central Public Policy Team has a global remit and is responsible for developing solutions to policy opportunities and regulatory challenges in issue domains that impact on Uber's global business. Working closely with on-the-ground Public Affairs and Government Relations and cross-functional partners we develop best in class policy solutions backed by rigorous research and data. The Central Public Policy Team also provides strategic advice and guidance to Tech and Product organizations as well as key executives in the execution of Uber's business goals.
