About the Role

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for ensuring the supply chain provides electro-mechanical components, assemblies and products that meet the defined quality levels for integration into the Uber ATG manufacturing processes, Self-driving vehicle (SDV) and OEM platforms. The SQE will develop and implement effective quality plans, processes and controls in managing suppliers' performance, including defect resolution and corrective actions, process improvements and conformance to Uber ATG quality specifications and industry standards.

The SQE role is self-directed, analytical and hands-on, and requires effective engagements across the Uber ATG supply base and Contract Manufacturers as well as with Uber-internal teams including Manufacturing Operations and Hardware Engineering.

What You'll Do

  • Apply experience and knowledge of quality control and manufacturing processes to develop Advanced Product Quality Plans (APQP) specific to program and commodity requirements and needs
  • Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to ensure appropriate quality expectations and assurance methods are implemented
  • Develop and implement quality inspection processes (OQC) and tools at the supplier(s)
  • Evaluate and communicate yield rates of new and existing supplier processes
  • Define, direct studies and implement process improvements where appropriate
  • Define and drive root cause/corrective actions across functions with internal teams and suppliers
  • Establish audit procedures appropriate to program and supply base to ensure alignment with Uber ATG quality standards
  • Assess supplier production control and quality programs, identify risks to expectation, and drive corrective actions
  • Review APQP with supplier and other internal functional groups to optimize supplier quality programs
  • Evaluate supplier readiness and consistency to APQP at appropriate development and qualification stages as required
  • Monitor supplier's performance using production, inspection and audit data
  • Generate supplier performance summary and communicate to appropriate teams and management

What You'll Need

  • Expertise in the Quality management processes and methods used in the manufacture of electro-mechanical components and assemblies for the automotive or vehicle supply base.
  • Experience and working knowledge of Quality Management System processes, procedures and data reporting.
  • Experience with quality standards and methods in performing supplier audits and compliance validation

Bonus Points If

  • Minimum experience of 7+ years in developing quality plans, auditing/evaluating suppliers, validating supplier production lines and driving failure analysis, RCCA efforts as required
  • Working knowledge of quality and reliability concepts/processes, supplier performance management, and general manufacturing operations including outgoing quality control (OQC) practices
  • Project management experience and knowledge of problem solving methods, root cause analysis and statistical process control is preferred
  • Experience with electro-mechanical component and assembly manufacturing including PCB/PCBA, box-build, mechanical enclosures, castings, injection molding, tooling, jigs, fixtures, or automotive high volume supplier quality engineering processes
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree is preferred
