Software Engineer II - Backend

About the Role

Whether it's a ride, a burrito, or groceries, our Engineering team builds technology to connect people with what they want, when, and where they want it. Uber is home to a team of engineers tasked with creating apps to fuel our three-sided marketplace of customers, consumers, and earners, whilst developing internal tools to create a 5-star experience for our users and engineers.

What you'll do

As a software engineer, you’ll engage in product and engineering jam sessions conceptualising features and mapping them into a technical design. You will build software that will ship to millions of users, or thousands of fellow engineers growing multiple apps that directly impact the ease of our users’ lives.

What the Candidate Will Need & Bonus Points

Basic Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree (B.Sc, M.Sc, Ph.D) in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience coding with C++, Java, Python, or Go
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience
  • Enjoy building high-quality software that is relied upon by millions of people around the world.
  • Excellent coding abilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with scalability engineering
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with relevant experience in implementing large-scale distributed backend services

Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Uber’s cultural identity. Unless formally approved to work fully remotely, Uber expects employees to spend at least half of their work time in their assigned office.
