Senior Staff Engineer - Platform Engineering

About the Role:

Senior Staff Engineers at Uber are expected to have a deep impact on a wide variety of technology decisions, spanning many projects across an entire org, and in many cases multiple orgs. We are looking for a technologist who brings experience in building mobile applications at scale, and who ideally has in-depth knowledge of many mobile technologies, platforms, tools, frameworks, and standard methodologies.

Uber's world-class engineers are empowered to push the envelope in scalability, distributed systems, mobile development, and machine learning/personalization/recommendation systems.

About the Team:

The Platform Engineering team is a centralized team within Uber that solves complex problems in the technology space, allowing the rest of Uber to focus on the business problems. We build the platforms, products, tools, and processes so that our developers across Uber can provide a world class experience to our end customers. We help build the foundations to help Uber accelerate at scale.

Minimum qualifications:

* PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field **AND** 4-years full-time Software Engineering work experience 
* **OR **7-years full-time Software Engineering work experience, **WHICH INCLUDES **4-years total technical software engineering experience in one or more of the following areas:
  * Programming language (e.g. C, C++, Java, Python, or Go)
  • Note the 4-years total of specialized software engineering experience may have been gained through education and full-time work experience, additional training, coursework, research, or similar (OR some combination of these). The years of specialized experience are not necessarily in addition to the years of Education & full-time work experience indicated.

Technical skills:

  • Distributed systems

Preferred:

  • Product engineering
  • Scalability engineering

Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Uber's cultural identity. Unless formally approved to work fully remotely, Uber expects employees to spend at least half of their work time in their assigned office. For certain roles, such as those based at green-light hubs, employees are expected to be in-office for 100% of their time.
