About the Role

Uber's Enterprise Security Team is looking for a hands-on Senior Security Engineer to help us deliver on several key initiatives for the company in the software and security engineering spaces. Through your work, you will dramatically improve our security posture through efforts in the following areas:

  • Endpoint hardening of Macs, PCs, Linux boxes, production servers, network equipment, SaaS, etc.
  • Compliance monitoring
  • Device Attestation
  • Network Security
  • Data Loss Prevention
  • Shadow IT identification and remediation
  • Audit & Compliance support
  • Email security
  • EDR
  • Malware scanning

Through your commitment to software and security engineering , you'll help our team as we bring tooling to Uber that protects our systems. Regardless of whether it's a workstation, 3rd party SaaS solution, server, or a network device , we need countermeasures and access to every threat to every Uber system and endpoint.

What You'll Do

What the Candidate Will Do ----

You will be joining an amazing team of security and software engineers on a mission to secure all of Uber's systems. You will work on a variety of projects such as:

  • Fine tuning and maintaining our collection of security tools
  • Evaluating new security solutions designed to increase Uber's security posture
  • Developing software to provide Uber with the ability to monitor our systems agains industry standard benchmarks for hardening and report on exceptions

Through your commitment to software and security engineering , you'll help our team as we bring tooling to Uber that protects our systems. Regardless of whether it's a workstation, 3rd party SaaS solution, server, or a network device , we need countermeasures and access to every threat to every Uber system and endpoint.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience in security engineering
  • Experience performing security engineering functions across a broad set of security domain areas (DLP, EDR, PKI, HSM, Network Security, Vuln MGMT, etc.)
  • Experience with industry security baselines such as CIS and NIST 800-53
  • Experience with Security audits and providing attestations
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Mentorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distributed systems
  • Experience with front and back end s/w development
  • Experience with 1 or more modern s/w development languages
  • Extensive experience (5+ years) designing and implementing large enterprise grade backend systems that scale flawlessly.
  • Email threat detection & remediation
  • SSO (SAML/OpenIDC)
  • Cryptography
  • Experience with Threat Based Defense
  • Experience building countermeasures based on the kill chain or ATT&CK Framework
  • Familiarity with operating system internals and hardening
  • Experience developing, deploying, and configuring security services and tools
  • Understanding of authentication, authorization, and directory services

Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Uber's cultural identity. Unless formally approved to work fully remotely, Uber expects employees to spend at least half of their work time in their assigned office. For certain roles, such as those based at green-light hubs, employees are expected to be in-office for 100% of their time.
