Business Development Associate, Payments, Risk, and Identity Partnerships

The Global Business Development team strengthens Uber's position as the world's leading mobility platform through creative and mutually beneficial commercial partnerships that unlock outsized value today and for many years to come.

About the Role

We're looking for someone to join our team to identify and support new payment, risk, and identity partnership opportunities to expand and grow Uber's products, influence our payment partnerships strategy in the region, and lead existing global strategic partnerships.

You will have the opportunity to craft and deliver on the vision and strategy of Uber's Global Business Development team and specifically our payments, risk, and identity partnership strategy. The Global Business Development team's mandate covers Uber's core Mobility (Ridesharing) & Delivery businesses and other strategic relationships.

You will be responsible for developing, advancing, and leading key payment partnerships and crafting and carrying out a plan that allows Uber to (1) drive growth & engagement, (2) deliver detailed and fabulous payments experiences for our earners and spenders, (3) help build reliable payment platforms and foundations and (4) improve the health of our P&L.

You have an excellent ability to think strategically and analytically about business opportunities, as well as a strong record of driving high-value partnerships with large, important institutions across the globe, spanning both public and private sectors. To succeed in this role, you will need a keen sense of responsibility and an ability to encourage.

Uber operates in over 70+ countries and 10,000 cities globally, has 100M+ customers, and delivered $90+ Billion in Gross Bookings in 2021. We have also disbursed billions of dollars to earners around the globe. We also handle and support several driver debit card and global gift card programs.

Further, one of Uber's next excellent frontiers is to build custom financial products to deepen our relationship with consumers and drive dedication to the Uber platform of services.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and drive the Payments, Risk, and Identity Partnership team's global strategy in concert with Product, Business Operations, Marketing, Strategy & Planning, and, Finance, including opportunity sizing and resource prioritization.
  • Envision new ways that strategic partnerships can positively impact key payments and core business objectives by applying creativity and business insight.
  • Identify and efficiently analyze new opportunities for Uber, ultimately making recommendations to relevant decision-makers and cross-functional partners.
  • Evaluate strategic partnerships and initiatives across geographies, performing a broad range of quantitative and qualitative analyses. Demonstrate strong quantitative skills by building financial models that uncover the financial implications of current and new opportunities.
  • Analyze and assess the impact of various partnerships by applying creative approaches to advise future deal constructs.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in business development, strategic partnerships, partner management, or similar roles at a technology company or payments company
  • Bachelor's Degree required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in payments, financial services, financial products, gift cards, payment acceptance and disbursements, risk, identity, wallets, card networks, and compliance.
  • Experience working with gig-economy companies
  • Global payments experience
  • Strong product instincts and ability to find opportunities for Uber to leverage partners' existing and in-development products, as well as the ability to collaborate with Uber's Product, Operations, and Engineering organization to build extraordinary features for our users
  • Broad and deep experience implementing industry-wide partnership strategies to build innovative product experiences and go-to-market models with payment partners
  • Ability to thrive with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty and ambiguity
  • Ability to fuse business, strategy, finance, and legal concepts to lead sophisticated, complex deals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong SQL skills and experience using common open source tools - such as Python or R
  • Excellent data visualization skills. Experience creating dashboards in Tableau or a similar visualization tool is a plus.

Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Uber's cultural identity.
