Director of Tax Accounting - Strategic Projects

In Finance, we work hand-in-hand with leaders across the company to ensure smooth, disciplined execution of strategic business objectives. Our Tax & Reporting team builds scalable and well-controlled processes to support timely and accurate financial, statutory reporting, and ensure compliance with regional and local tax regulations.

About the Role

This role is an unique opportunity to deepen your tax accounting expertise by leading this function focused on M&A, internal reorganizations, business initiatives and other special projects. You will work with various finance management teams to expand your business knowledge as well as lead the Company's income tax control process, partnering with both internal and external stakeholders.

What You'll Do

  • Participate in all stages of tax planning initiatives, providing guidance in accordance with ASC 740 and effectively communicating ASC 740 requirements to department leaders.
  • Provide tax accounting guidance and due diligence support for potential future mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
  • Assist with financial modeling and forecasting of various ad hoc scenarios.
  • Oversee the preparation of income tax accounting memoranda to document analysis and conclusions for transactions and other non-routine matters, ensuring compliance with internal controls.
  • Monitor emerging issues in U.S. GAAP accounting standards and SEC reporting, as well as proposed changes in tax laws, and assess the financial statement impact.
  • Partner with regional tax and accounting experts as well as internal and external auditors.
  • Assist with the review of income tax returns as it relates to the reporting of non-routine transactions.
  • Manage and direct compliance efforts for Sarbanes Oxley for all income tax controls and documentation requirements.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives as it relates to the tax accounting around non-recurring transactions and events.
  • Complete other special projects as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 years of corporate income tax experience, including 10 years of recent provision tax experience
  • Experience with provision and reporting processes for multi-national SEC registered companies and prior public accounting experience (Big 4 is preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline.
  • Extensive working knowledge of U.S. GAAP accounting principles and ASC 740

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA and/or Master's in Taxation preferred.
  • Prior experience in the technology industry
  • Excellent written, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with OneSource Tax Provision and Oracle is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Advanced Excel skills is a plus.

Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Uber's cultural identity.
