About the Role

Uber is home to one of the largest and most unique insurance programs in the world and insurance data lies at its foundation. We're looking for an experienced data analyst to manage our critical insurance data infrastructure. This will involve everything from designing new data models and improving existing data processes to expanding the scope of the data program to support Uber's ever-growing portfolio. This team works cross functionally to ensure that our data processes are aligned with industry best practices and stakeholder needs.

What You'll Do

  • Manage a team of 2-3 highly skilled analysts to deliver projects on time with high quality
  • Collaborate with business leaders to manage project intake, roadmap, prioritize, and manage staffing against key initiatives
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders, including actuaries, program managers, data scientists and data analysts to identify challenges and opportunities for insurance data models
  • Create robust data models to unlock new analytical opportunities
  • Design comprehensive quality checks to facilitate accurate analyses and to ensure Uber's insurance data meets compliance standards
  • Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to build and improve on the availability, integrity, accuracy, and reliability of data logging and data pipelines.

Basic Qualifications

  • M.S. or Bachelors degree in Math, Economics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or other quantitative fields
  • Minimum 2 years of management experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a data-focused role, preferably in the insurance industry

  • Advanced SQL expertise

  • Proficiency in a scripting language (Python preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience working with big data frameworks (ex. Hadoop, Spark)
  • Experience with Excel and some dashboarding/data visualization (ex. Tableau)
  • A passion for data quality
  • Excellent judgment, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to balance attention to detail with swift execution

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building/maintaining SOX compliant control data environment
  • Actuarial experience
  • Experience working with insurance data
  • Basic understanding of insurance concepts (ex. rate, premium, exposure, loss cost) and terminology
  • Project management skills - Ability to drive projects end-to-end
  • Ability to deliver on tight timelines and move quickly with cross-functional teams to execute on decisions while maintaining attention to detail
  • Have a growth mindset; love solving ambiguous, challenging and impactful problems!
