Customer Obsession Engineering at Uber is on a mission to build products that delight our customers across all lines of business, globally. Data is critical to how we effectively we can build and innovate magical experience and we are looking for seasoned Engineering Leader to lead one or more areas around Data Insights product & platform.

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

  • Led full stack team of Backend, Web/FrontEnd and Mobile engineer
  • Set the vision and the strategy for the teams, and help the team complete that vision in an efficient manner
  • Hire and grow team talent, and help your team progress in their careers
  • Own large opportunities and initiatives and drive clarity, convergence and closure across teams
  • Communicate and collaborate within and across teams (both engineers, data scientists / analysts, designers, product, Strategy, Business & Ops teams) to prioritize needs and drive company-wide, large-scale projects
  • Mentor, educate and support those around you, as well as other engineers within the company
  • Demonstrate your technical skills, as needed, to contribute to the team's products, or build tooling to help your team implement more efficiently
  • Be a role model on acting with good judgement and responsibility. Engineers across the organization will look to you on how best to plan and complete projects

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  • 10+years of overall experience with a proven track record as a technical leader and Engineering manager
  • Strong experience in Software Design and Architecture, having scaled Distributed systems / Micro services in products
  • Experience going through the full software cycle of requirements, design, coding/testing, rollout/deploy standard methodologies in delivering world class software and services
  • Strong people leadership skills including growing and mentoring your team members
  • Experience evolving and communicating a strong vision/roadmap for your team
  • Passion about your team's mission and the self starting personality to make things happen
  • A track record of delivering results even when requirements are under specified
  • Adept at communicating and collaborating effectively with others, promoting your ideas as well as being humble when you may be wrong
  • Excited to learn from and guide others and are passionate about creating tools, products and providing support for other engineers

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

Bias towards action: You believe that speed and quality aren't mutually exclusive. You've shown good judgement about shipping as fast as possible while still making sure that products are built in a sustainable, responsible way -- and you're comfortable making mistakes, provided you and your team learns from them

Engineering excellence: You have the technical strength and deep knowledge of the whole stack to give great architecture and implementation guidance to the teams who will count on your experience.

Mentorship: You know that the most important part of your job is setting the team up for success. Through mentoring, teaching, and reviewing, you help other engineers make sound architectural decisions, improve their code quality, and get out of their comfort zone

Commitment: Cities never sleep, and neither does Uber. You care tremendously about keeping the Uber experience consistent for users and strive to make any issues invisible to riders. You are your harshest critic and hold yourself personally accountable, jumping in and taking ownership of problems that might not even be in your team's scope.

Background in managing data platform: Not a mandatory requirement but it will good-to-have previous experience in managing teams that work on data platform at scale. This role will managing multiple charters but a big part of that will be data platforms
