We have a unique opportunity for a talented and enthusiastic lawyer to join our APAC Product & Commercial Legal team.

The APAC Product & Commercial team is a new team that has been created to provide centralised ownership of all product related work in the region as well as offering key strategic guidance and support to APAC-wide marketing and commercial deals. This role will be supporting the APAC Mobility and Delivery business and will be required to undertake legal work including product development counseling, supporting local and region-wide commercial negotiations and marketing reviews and managing and updating user terms.

This position can be based in any of our regional hubs - Sydney, Melbourne or Gurgaon and will report to the Sr. Counsel, Product & Commercial, APAC.

What You'll Do:

  • Working alongside the team to manage the APAC-wide and local legal reviews of new products (such as a new taxi product) or features (such as a rider loyalty scheme) for the Mobility and Delivery business across the region. Create / review relevant T&Cs and advise on how to best position/structure these products/features to reduce legal risk.
  • Draft and prepare standardised templates and negotiation playbook for regional and APAC-wide commercial issues and contracts such as Business Development deals with third parties and general procurement initiatives.
  • Conduct APAC-wide reviews of global marketing materials and agreements, liaise closely with the marketing legal team in HQ and local regional teams.
  • Be an active and trusted business partner, and ensure the provision of timely business-focussed advice to the APAC Mobility and Delivery business across the region.
  • Work closely with regional legal teams, specialist internal legal counsel and represent APAC legal team with HQ legal for product reviews and contracts.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams including tax, policy and communications to provide strategic advice.
  • Deal with multiple stakeholders across different business lines, countries and legal teams.
  • Understand, interpret and apply current laws and regulations as applicable to Uber's business models in the region and your areas of responsibility.

What You'll Need:

  • Relevant post-qualification experience at a top law firm or in-house (ideally 3-4+ years, preferably with some in-house experience).
  • Strong academic credentials and law degree from a top law school or university.
  • Excellent business judgment, communication, diplomatic and interpersonal skills (with a high level of emotional intelligence).
  • Experience working in high functioning teams and environments.
  • Superior analytical and legal skills, mature judgment, innovative thinking and a desire to take the initiative and think two steps ahead.
  • Ability to translate complex legal issues and ambiguity into clear and simple advice, to communicate effectively with non-legal internal colleagues, and to interface with a broad range of senior business managers, executives and other colleagues and professionals across our company.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and influence, persuade, and build consensus at an executive level as well as thrive in high impact/high profile situations.
  • Ability to think on your feet and make quick decisions.
  • Embody the highest standards of integrity, ethics and accountability.
