Senior Communications Associate, ANZ

Communications
in Sydney, Australia

About the Role

To be a thought leader you have to have a thought - and we're looking for someone who wants to fundamentally change the way people think about the role of technology in providing meaningful solutions to society's toughest challenges, from transforming car ownership to redefining the future of flexible work. We are looking for an experienced communicator to partner on our efforts across Australia and New Zealand, proactively pitching stories while handling reactive queries in a busy and fast-paced press office. Based in Sydney, you will report directly to the Head of Communications, ANZ, and work closely with cross functional teams and leadership across our Mobility and Delivery businesses.

What You'll Do:

  • Work to tell our story in creative, inspiring ways that resonate with journalists and the general public;
  • Handle media queries as part of a small but busy communications team which covers both Uber and Uber Eats;
  • Help define strategic narratives and bring them to life through creative communications activities;
  • Work to amplify the voices of our partners, and build awareness of Uber products.
  • Partner with global and regional communications teams to support communications strategies, and campaigns, that promote and enhance the overall reputation of Uber;
  • Work cross-functionally to help manage issues as they arise and shape the business' response;
  • Identify opportunities for us to tell our story and manage external requests including speaking events and media bids.
  • The role is very fast paced and will require a flexible work schedule, including but not limited to weekend work hours and the option to work from a home office.

What You'll Need:

  • Ideally you would have at least 7 years experience in communications/PR/journalism with a good knowledge of the ANZ media market. You'll have a proven track record of managing complex communications and issues management with a love of consumer storytelling -- either for a company, a third party or in government. But we're open to people who've been successful in other walks of life (e.g. the law, media, working for law enforcement) who intuitively get this stuff and may be looking for a career change. Fluency in English, both oral and written, is essential.
  • The ideal candidate will have worked in a busy press office across numerous issues/crises.
  • Consumer and product comms experience would be highly valued.
  • The candidate will work across the business (Mobility and Delivery) and will need to be a great all rounder - someone who can dive into new projects, a good writer and strong verbal reasoning.
  • Good stakeholder management. The right candidate will need to successfully manage both external and internal stakeholders.
  • Strength of character to thrive where the team is lean and the work is fast paced.
  • Media relations experience
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Fluency in English, both oral and written, is essential.

At Uber, we reimagine the way the world moves for the better. The idea was born on a snowy night in Paris in 2008, and ever since then, our DNA of reimagination and reinvention carries on. We've grown into a global platform moving people and things in ever-expanding ways, taking on big problems to help drivers, riders, delivery partners, and eaters make movement happen at the push of a button for everyone, everywhere.

We welcome people from all backgrounds who seek the opportunity to help build a future where everyone and everything can move independently. If you have the curiosity, passion, and collaborative spirit, work with us, and let's move the world forward, together.
