This is an amazing opportunity to join our growing APAC Regional Tax team and will take responsibility for tax aspects of the Delivery and Mobility businesses in the APAC region. Role to be based in Singapore - if you're based in Australia you need to be willing to relocate to Singapore.

What You'll Do:
You will work closely with the APAC Tax team and other members of the tax and finance departments to execute the comprehensive tax advisory, compliance and litigation functions in the APAC region, with a primary focus in indirect taxes, and ensure compliant tax reporting procedures with the local legislation in every country.

You would be expected to identify and research various tax issues and clearly articulate your findings to management through verbal / written communication (i.e. memorandums, PowerPoint, etc.) and verbal presentations. Additionally, you are expected to uphold a strong working partnership with internal departments and external tax advisors and tax authorities.


  • You will lead all indirect tax initiatives for the APAC region.
  • You have the ability to operate independently, make decisions and thrive on execution.
  • Be part of a cross-functional team that works on rolling out new products and services in the region.
  • Review legal contracts from an overall tax perspective to provide comprehensive analysis and recommendations.
  • Assist with the management of challenging tax matters, including leading litigation matters, corresponding with tax authorities and the provision of tax audit support.
  • Work in a smart, innovative way to drive improvements to processes, controls and reporting across the region and across operations.
  • Work with the FinTech Team to build, test and update the way technology helps deliver a seamless, tax compliant and efficient experience for Uber, our Partners and End Users.
  • Be at the forefront of new product roll outs and work with Business leadership on the roll-out of new products, initiatives and solutions across APAC.
  • Lead interaction and knowledge sharing of indirect tax matters with our HQ in San Francisco as well as the EMEA and LATAM mega regions.
  • Coordination of tax-related compliance work, including review of indirect tax returns.
  • Monitor and assess new tax legislation and case law for applicability, communicate changes and impact to the APAC region and work with relevant stakeholders to ensure implementation and compliance.

What You'll Need:

  • Finance, accounting and/or law degree.
  • 9+ years of strong indirect tax experience of the APAC region in industry, law firms, and/or Big 4, knowledge and good understanding of corporate tax would be a plus.
  • Technology based/e-commerce sector experience strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of international indirect tax concepts, particularly as it relates to cross border services, marketplace/merchant relationships, and product roll-outs.
  • Solid experience in the management of indirect tax processes and controls with a comprehensive understanding of the overall tax environment in each country.
  • SOX compliance experience preferred.
  • Tax controversy experience preferred, specially in ANZ and North Asia markets.
  • Exposure to and experience with a broad range of APAC tax regimes is strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent research skills required.
  • Self motivated, detail oriented, strong organisation, analytical, and strong interpersonal skills, a team player.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, and high-growth organisation, and to develop and sustain relationships internally and cross-functionally.
  • Open to challenging projects outside areas of experience or comfort zone.
  • Ownership, drive and energy.
  • International travel is part of the job.
