In this role, you will establish relationships with the engineering teams, software engineers, security & privacy engineers, privacy architects, data scientists, product managers/leads, program managers, CommOps, legal, and compliance to collaborate with EngSec leadership and lead a world class Privacy program. This organization provides the critical tools and processes vital for Privacy teams responsible for embedding 'user privacy' as one of the key values in operational and product groups!

Technical Privacy Consulting (TPC) is part of the Technical Privacy program. We provide consultancy services across Uber in order to embed privacy into software design as early as possible and protect personal data of its customers. The program manager will be embedded within the Privacy Architecture team. Work with privacy engineers and architects to identify, manage, prioritize and track privacy controls and remediations. In addition, this role will also ensure that SLAs for Technical Privacy Consultant review tickets are met and privacy remediations are supervised and handled accurately.

The ideal candidate should be a strategic problem solver who is able to work effectively with internal partners in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, communicate security & privacy posture effectively across multiple products and environments, move forward and resolve roadblocks independently, and manage and drive progress to reduce risk across Uber. This role is perfect for someone comfortable with continuously learning and moving quickly while crafting processes that accelerate engineering rather than impeding it.

  • Initiate projects and programs based on partner needs, track program status, and serve as support providers when issues or project blockers are encountered
  • Project manage sophisticated and large-scale cross-team, cross-functional initiatives, including interacting with and communicating with project partners throughout the lifecycle of the project/product
  • Work with engineering managers and engineers to estimate work efforts and define landmarks
  • Understand and identify technical obstacles to successfully deliver the desired outcomes
  • Work independently or in a small team to plan, administer, and monitor projects

  • Provide frequent updates on metrics and ensure that privacy review SLAs are met
  • Evaluate privacy risks and provide measurable privacy controls
  • Manage privacy remediations and ensure existing vulnerabilities are addressed
  • Make process improvements (ensure consistent tracking of tickets/fixes, build and run dashboards for reporting, etc.)
  • Work with Engineering tools (Jira, Phabricator) and dashboarding tools (Tableau)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Operations, Business, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Program Manager (preferably in the Privacy domain)
  • Advanced skills with Jira and Excel
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to different types of audiences both internally and externally (lawyers, engineers, data scientists and product leads)
  • Ability to work with a high volume of incoming requests and supervise their progress
  • Ability to operate collaboratively and efficiently in a fluid, ambiguous environment
  • Creative problem-solving and critical thinking skills with a bias towards action

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) and understanding of Privacy principles and fundamentals with relevant Privacy domain experience (e.g., performing PIAs)
  • Assist with privacy related risk management responsibilities, including evaluating privacy risks and providing measurable privacy controls, and running privacy remediations to ensure vulnerabilities are mitigated
  • Assist with project development, budgeting, planning and design, scheduling, risk management, and project execution
  • Experience running large-scale, company-wide processes and identify process improvements (provide uniform tracking of fixes/tickets, build and manage dashboards for reporting, etc.)
  • Anticipate dependencies, drive decisions, and detect known problems early; facilitate resolution management across multiple teams as needed
  • Work with senior leaders across the company to understand overall success metrics and then engage where needed
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with cross-functional partners and organizations
  • Experience with data management/visualization tools (e.g., Tableau) and Engineering tools (e.g., Jira, Phabricator)
  • System design knowledge or backend software development experience
  • Program management experience in a fast-paced, high volume, agile environment with a sophisticated tech stack
