EMPLOYMENT COUNSEL - AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND

About the Role

We're looking for an exceptional lawyer to join our Global Employment Legal team to support and help lead our growing businesses across Australia and New Zealand.

This is not your typical in-house role; it is a dynamic, fast-paced environment and needs a candidate who is agile and able to juggle multiple projects, re-prioritize quickly to address shifting business needs, and thrive in high impact/high profile situations.

This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to join a global legal team integral to a company engaged in cutting edge technology and focused on solving some of the biggest challenges in the world - including changing the way regulators, courts and legislators think about the future of work. This role will be based in Sydney.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Serve as the lead employment lawyer for our businesses in Australia and New Zealand, responsible for identifying and resolving employment and safety related issues arising from the operation of Uber in ANZ.

  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in tax, regulatory legal, product developers and policy and communications teams to pre-empt employment law risks related to Uber's business, and proactively finding solutions to those issues.

  • Handle and advise on pre-litigation disputes and employment litigation.

  • Advise Uber's HR team on the full range of employment matters, and partner closely on a variety of projects, initiatives, investigations and risk management.
  • Work with the business and colleagues in legal, tax and policy as we explore new modalities across the region.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Minimum of 5 years' employment law experience at a top tier firm and/or in-house with a focus on employment law. Must be experienced in either employment litigation or safety matters.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Confidence in operating in a fast-paced environment.

  • History of driving efficient and strategic use of resources, including other support functions, in-house counsel, vendors and external counsel.

  • Inquisitiveness, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of the matter, and articulate plans to address them.

  • Collaborative approach with both business and legal groups, with a strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility and partner with others.

  • Passionate about your work and a desire to have a big impact.

  • Enthusiastic about Uber!
