About the Role

 

We are currently searching for a Safety Program Manager to support the development and implementation of safety programs in our global markets. This is a great opportunity to join a growing team and to work on cutting edge issues in an exciting, fast-paced environment.

 

The Safety Policy and Standards team works with stakeholders globally to develop operational standards on important matters affecting safety (e.g., onboarding, identity verification, screening, incident response), achieve greater consistency in implementation, identify gaps/weaknesses and remediate them, and design better process controls supporting our safety programs worldwide. 

 

The Safety Program Manager should be excited about the benefits technology and data can bring to enhance safety, passionate about Uber’s mission, and be opinionated on how Uber can work with our teams globally on safety solutions for our users.  We’re open to people who’ve been successful in other walks of life (e.g. Compliance, Identity Verification, Payments, Account Security) who intuitively understand and care for safety matters and are looking for a new challenge.

 

We are looking for candidates with great attention to detail and passionate about what data can tell us about our users and how to distinguish between cultural and regional nuances. You’re an effective project manager with a knack for managing diverse stakeholders and navigating cross-functional partnerships. Compelling candidates should be able to clearly communicate and convince a cross-functional audience on proposed policies and process changes that impact safety.

 

What You’ll Do
  • Work directly with Uber’s centralized Safety and Global Safety Operations teams to provide support the development and implementation of safety policies globally
  • Develop deep expertise in the types of challenges facing Uber and other rideshare companies globally, particularly on screening and identity verification of users that is critical to promote a safe and fair experience for everyone on our platform
  • Conduct rigorous analysis, both quantitative and qualitative, and thorough research, both internal and external, to inform policy recommendations
  • Develop relationships with functional leaders and key stakeholders across Global Operations, Community Operations, Legal, Engineering, and Data Science to establish deep expertise on Uber’s safety issues globally
  • Design effective roadmaps for efficient prioritization and implementation of safety programs 
  • Design appropriate metrics, tools, and methods to track and sustain safety policies
  • Develop well-crafted narratives for documentation and presentation to cross-functional leadership
  • Continually identify areas of opportunity through rigorous data analytics and emerging safety challenges

 

What You’ll Need

  • A minimum of 5 years of industry or consulting experience in project or program management, risk mitigation, global operations, or related fields
  • Ability to develop and execute effectively without a prescribed template
  • Ability to tell clear, compelling stories out of complex issues and analysis
  • Influential with great communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Comfortable driving discussions across stakeholders and presenting strategy, roadmaps, and results to leadership 
  • Analytical and data driven; passion for problem solving and risk mitigation
  • Experience working cross-functionally and taking on multiple tasks with aggressive timelines 
  • Expert organizational and project management skills, experience with team management software a plus 
  • Passion for improving Uber user experience with a focus on safety
  • International experience preferred
  • Analytical skills, including Excel, Google Sheets, SQL preferred
