We are currently looking for an exceptional lawyer to join our Commercial Transactions team with expertise in supporting a growing and fast-moving enterprise sales organisation, as well as relevant experience negotiating, drafting and managing business, commercial and marketing transactions as we scale nationally and globally. This role will be based in Uber’s offices in Tokyo, reporting into the Commercial Transactions team based in Hong Kong.

What You’ll Do
Work within the Commercial Transactions team covering the Japan market, working closely with our Japan regulatory lawyer (also based in Tokyo, Japan).
Partner closely with the other members of the Commercial Transactions and Uber Japan business team on drafting, reviewing and taking ownership of commercial transactions in Japan. This ranges from general commercial agreements (including real estate) to strategic deals in the region.
Integrate within the Japan business team to be a key resource in negotiating commercial deals in Japan.
Driving legal research and the evaluation of different commercial risks regarding business operations in the region.
Collaborating with other stakeholders in the business including guidance and clarification on all commercial legal matters.
Develop and adjust legal policies and internal guidance to help support the business.
Organise legal educational material for in-house training to both legal and non-legal personnel.
Be part of the team that manages our corporate secretarial function that looks after our entities in the APACx region.
Liaising and managing external counsel advice.
Opportunity to collaborate with other members of the Commercial Transactions team on matters impacting regions outside of Japan that has an APACx remit.
What You’ll Need
A law degree from a recognised university and admission to practice law in Japan.
4 to 7 years of relevant experience as a lawyer within a recognised law firm or multinational company. Lawyers with in-house experience will be preferred.
Strong skills in legal drafting, negotiation, commercial and corporate law knowledge, legal research and experience dealing with law firms is a must. We are looking for lawyers who want to excel.
Strong communication skills both verbally and in written form. You will be working in a dynamic work environment that will require you to understand a lot of information in a short space of time and be able to advise clearly and succinctly.
Knowledge of the organisation and the technology sector, global collaboration, and exceptional ethics and judgment. A genuine interest in this sector is a requirement as we are looking for our lawyers to truly add value to the business.
Ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously while maintaining high quality and performance under pressure. You will be covering a large and busy region for the company and a strong work-ethic is a must in this relatively small but highly effective team.
A desire to grow and develop within an in-house legal environment and to take ownership of specific areas of work.
