About the Role

Uber's Security team works to ensure the security of information for our full set of users - riders, eaters, drivers and partners. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every experience with Uber is simple, secure, and safe.


We are seeking a talented Security Program Manager to join our Security Assurance team in San Francisco, who will help build and maintain Uber’s security compliance program. The Security Program Manager will develop sustainable solutions for complex regulatory and industry standard requirements, across the corporate network and production computation environment.


Who you are

You immerse yourself in all aspects of security. You have a passion for optimizing costly, time consuming processes and automating manual tasks. You have knowledge of open source technologies and tools that can be used to support controls in Uber’s microservice architecture. You have strong understanding of DevOps and infrastructure automation techniques, tools and technologies.

What you'll do:

You’ll manage the development of infrastructure tools and technologies that support Uber’s financial  compliance and other security compliance programs, assisting Uber with meeting complex regulatory and industry standard requirements, at significant scale. You will:

  • Project manage complex and large scale cross-team, cross-functional initiatives related to access management, change management, vulnerability management, security by design, etc.
  • Interface with engineers and engineering managers to estimate work efforts, define milestones and manage resources. Track progress, resolve dependencies, evaluate risks and communicate status to upper management and project stakeholders. Engage and energize the project teams to achieve aggressive goals.
  • Proactively remove obstacles to drive momentum and progress. Identify communication gaps, manage issue escalations and provide support to teams balancing competing priorities. Drive results proactively.
  • Understand technical implementation at the architecture level and propose alternatives when necessary. Ask questions that clarify priorities and push the team to be highly effective. Develop broad domain and technical knowledge.
  • Advise on control requirements, identify gaps, and oversee remediation efforts by partnering with control owners and engineers on design and implementation.
  • Help manage the cross-functional strategic planning and business planning processes, leading conversations with key stakeholders to develop concepts for strategic initiatives, and developing those into detailed program / project plans (including roadmaps, funding requests, resource planning and hiring goals).
  • Continuously improve and scale the organization. Organize and improve communications and processes to better support a reliable control environment. Implement continuous improvements to the engineering organization and the program management process. Share program/project process frameworks, tools, and best practices that can be adopted throughout the organization. Improve product development and delivery. Mentor project management skills within our engineering leadership team.

What you'll need

  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Technical Program Manager or engineering manager in a software, SaaS, or systems development environment.
  • Solid technical aptitude and an ability to understand technical designs, challenges and risks. Engineers enjoy working closely with you.
  • Experienced in project management. Familiar with both Agile and Waterfall methodologies and able to apply them where best suited.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and exceptional emotional intelligence. Ability to influence and motivate people across a broad variety of job functions through your relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills to juggle many tasks without losing sight of the highest priority items.
  • Experience in a microservice/DevOps environment leveraging the CI/CD pipeline.

Bonus points if you have

  • Experience in software development or security engineering.
  • Experience implementing controls to meet some or all of the following frameworks and standards: SOX, SOC 2, ISO 27001/2, NIST, PCI DSS, CIS Top 20, HIPAA, etc.
  • Experience developing/supporting automated approaches to operate and test controls in a microservice/DevOps environment.
