Class 4 driver's licence

Vancouver driver-partners need a valid Class 1, 2, or 4 licence in order to drive with Uber. Learn more about getting your Class 4 driver's licence below.

1. Complete the knowledge test

The Class 4 knowledge test questions are based on information from the Driving Commercial Vehicles Guide. The test consists of 35 questions and you'll need to score a minimum of 28 correct responses to pass. You can take the test at any driver licensing office.*

To prepare, review the guide and take the practise test. Keep in mind that if you don’t pass, the waiting period to retake a Class 4 Knowledge Test is 7 days.

2. Schedule your road test

Once you've passed your Class 4 knowledge test, schedule a Class 4 pre-trip vehicle inspection and road test at by calling the road test booking call centre:

  • Location: Metro Vancouver
  • Phone: 604-661-2255
  • Monday - Friday: 8am – 6 pm
  • Saturday: 9am – 5 pm

ICBC recommends that drivers study for the pre-trip inspection. Keep in mind that if you don't pass, the waiting period to retake the pre-trip inspection and road test is 14 days.

3. Complete a medical exam

Once you’ve passed your Class 4 road test, you’ll receive a driver medical examination form to have completed by a doctor.

You can upload your interim licence to start driving but be sure to submit the completed medical form to ICBC within 45 days to avoid your licence being cancelled.

4. Upload your licence

If you're uploading an interim Class 1, 2, or 4 driver's licence, please make sure that a government-issued photo ID is also in the photo (e.g. BC services card, passport) in the same photo to verify your identity.
