Due to COVID-19, Uber Pool is temporarily suspended in many regions. Check your app for details.
The ride options shown on this page are a mere sample of services you can hire through Uber, and some of them might not be available where you use the app. If you check your city’s web page or look in the app, you will be able to see what types of rides you can request from it.
Why ride with Uber Pool
Pickups along the way
The Uber app will look for riders along your route to fill empty seats in the car. Greet your co-riders with a smile—together, you’re saving money.
It takes a little longer
With extra riders, it may take a little longer to get there, but you’ll always see your estimated arrival time in the app. If you’re in a rush, try UberX.
Maximum 2 seats per request
You can request a ride using Uber Pool with a friend, but if you’re riding with more than 2 people or extra luggage, choose UberX or other options with more seats available.
How UberPool works
1. Request
Open the Uber app and enter your destination in the "Where to?" box. Tap the UberPool ride option at the bottom of your screen. Then tap Confirm UberPool. You can request UberPool for up to 2 people.
You’ll see the time until your driver arrives, as well as the estimated window of time to arrive at your destination.
2. Ride
Look at the map in the Uber app as you walk to your pickup spot. Be at the curb before your driver arrives to make sure no one in your car is kept waiting.
We’ll match your car with other riders heading your way. This is how we can offer you a low price, so expect additional pickups and/or dropoffs along your trip.
3. Hop out
Simply exit the car when you reach your destination. We’ll automatically charge the price to the payment method you have on file. If your trip was 5 stars, consider tipping your driver in the app after your trip.

Sample rider prices are estimates only and do not reflect variations due to discounts, geography, traffic delays, or other factors. Flat rates and minimum fees may apply. Actual prices for rides and scheduled rides may vary.
Frequently asked questions
- Is there room for my luggage?
It depends on the space in the car and the number of riders. If you’re traveling with luggage, we recommend trying UberX.
- What if I have more than 2 people?
Uber Pool allows only 1-2 riders per request, but you can use UberX or other options for larger groups.
- How long will it take to pick up other riders?
On average, riding with Uber Pool adds only a few minutes to your overall trip time. You’ll always see your estimated arrival time in the app as you ride.
- I was picked up first. Why was I dropped off second?
Pickup and dropoff order is determined by where your destination falls along the route, rather than the order of who was picked up first.
- Is there a limit to how many people we’ll pick up on my trip?
Riders can hop in and out during your trip. If all empty seats are filled, the app will stop looking for extra riders. Additionally, it will stop looking for extra riders to make sure you meet your arrival time.
- What if my co-rider takes us out of the way?
Though some pickups and dropoffs may be slightly out of the way, the app will always work to make sure you arrive at the time shown.
