About the Role

Uber ATG is looking to significantly grow the team responsible for building the technology used to product the HD map for the car.  The AVMaps department, based in Pittsburgh and with an office in Boulder is seeking multiple experienced Software Engineering Managers to join our team.  The organization is organized into several teams, each with a different technical focus and responsibility.

The Core Team is responsible for the algorithms used to build the AVMap elements directly from the data obtained from our fleet of mapping vehicles.  Additionally, the team is responsible for the schema and APIs of the map and works closely with the consumers of the map, including the Autonomy Software teams on the contents and representation of the map.  This team regularly works on software that incorporates sensors (such as inertial sensors, lidar, and cameras) and key data structures (such as road networks used by the autonomy algorithms). The software written by this team regularly runs on both the vehicles and within the data center and is primarily written in C++, but the team must be aware of the need for other language bindings.

All of the AVMaps teams work closely together and each Manager must be a strong leader capable of working in a team environment where the success of the department depends on all teams, Manager and Technical Leads working collaboratively on solutions.  As a Manager in the ATG, you will be expected to wear many hats, form being technically competent to manage discussions with external teams and bring new technical solutions into the ATG. About the Team

At the Advanced Technologies Group (ATG), we are building technologies that will transform the way the world moves. Our teams in Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and Toronto are dedicated to mapping, software and hardware development, vehicle safety, and operations for self-driving technology. Our teams are passionate about developing a self-driving system that will one day move people and things around more safely, efficiently, and cost effectively.

At Uber, we believe technology has the power to make transportation more efficient, accessible, and safer than ever before. Self-driving technology has the potential to make these benefits an everyday reality for our customers, but it’s not going to happen overnight. Building best-in-class self-driving technology will take time, and safety is our priority every step of the way. Operating inclusively and transparently, while displaying responsible behavior in a structured development are critical to safety. We at ATG seek candidates who will role model these values.
