From 5 December 2017, all trips across South Africa will now include a small booking fee.
The booking fee will be a variable fee of 4% on each trip that will apply to all ridesharing rides in South Africa. For example, if you are travelling from Rosebank to Sandton in an uberX, your upfront fare which includes the booking fee will now be R61 – this is only a R2 increase.
Or, if you request an uberX from Cape Town City Centre to the Cape Town International Convention Centre, you will only pay an extra R1 which means that your trip will cost R24. Going forward, the booking fee will be included in all future upfront fares.
We believe that this small addition will help make the Uber app even more efficient and will contribute to an even more seamless experience that we constantly aim to achieve. The fares remain competitive, and Uber remains committed to enabling a high-quality service to all riders in South African.
