Just because you’re not at the beach, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy summer to the max. Jozi is one of the coolest cities in South Africa to explore this December, and there is certainly no shortage of hot parties and festive events!
Dance and dress to rebel
Don’t miss the second annual Afropunk Festival on 30th of December with a lineup including The Internet, Thundercat and the local Moonchild Sanelly. Dress in your best “The People Resist” outfit, bashing racism, corruption and sexism. You’ll meet loads of interesting, open-minded people and dance until morning with a beautiful view from Constitution Hill.
Picnic and party in the park
You can continue the festival vibe with the Reiger Park Music Festival. This annual festival is more of a family fun day, with low entry costs and plenty of picnicking opportunities around the park. Load up your baskets, schedule a ride and get ready to see musical talents from local DJs, artists and musicians throughout the day on 15th of December.
Getting in the holiday spirit
If you’re looking to get festive with the family, the Christmas Village at Montecasino is the perfect place. Do some Christmas shopping at the local arts and crafts stalls and enjoy delicious food and drinks; you’ll be sure to find something for every member of the family. Admission is only R10 and proceeds go to the 947 Christmas Wish List, helping less privileged families have their holiday dreams come true.
Party through to New Year
When it’s time to round off the year, why not try the ENYE New Year’s Extravaganza at Kempton Park? Turn up at 3pm with some food and drink, enjoy the sun and live music and dance through the night until New Year’s day. And if you’re still raring to go on January 1st, you can head back for the All White Soul Picnic, for more party picnic fun from midday to midnight.
Request a ride when heading to the various events this summer and save on petrol and the frustration of finding parking. It’s safe, reliable and affordable and you can share your ETA and other details with friends and family. You can also share fares with your friends, making it easier to travel in groups and enjoy your summer, stress-free
