Durban, Let’s get together to help those in need!

The effects of last month’s floods in Durban have caused large-scale damage to housing and additional structures, resulting in mass displacement and loss of belongings. As a result, many people have been left  in dire need of help from their community.  

We remember how generous the people of Durban were during #UberCOMMUNITY in 2019, so we decided to make donating much-needed items convenient once again! From Monday, 9 May 2022 – Friday, 13 May 2022, with the touch of a button, you can request a trip using the Uber app and a driver will come to your doorstep, pick up your donations and deliver them directly to the Vhuthu Culture drop-off point in Durban – all at no additional expense to you! The donations will be given to those in need across the city of Durban. Terms and conditions apply.

The Finer Details:

To facilitate the collection and distribution of all donations, Uber has partnered with Vhuthu Culture. The donation drive will run between Monday, 9 May 2022 – Friday, 13 May 2022,. Requests must be placed within those hours. All donations must be bagged or boxed in order for drivers to accept your donation. If possible, please mark clearly what you are donating! Donations cannot be in cash, only items such as, but limited to, general toiletries, towels, clothing and non-perishable food and water will be accepted. Please keep in mind that drivers can’t leave vehicles unattended, so we ask that you bring your items out to meet your driver when they arrive. #UberCOMMUNITY will be in high demand so please be patient! The donations will be going to those in need in Durban. Successful redemption of this offer is subject to the availability of drivers. Access to and use of the Uber app will be subject to the standard terms and conditions applicable to all riders who use the platform. Riders will not be able to take any rides in any of these vehicles. Uber reserves the right to amend and/or withdraw the offer at any time at its sole discretion, without notice.
