Fees and Surcharges Explained
Your upfront price includes applicable taxes, tolls, fees, and other charges.
What are some of the taxes, tolls, fees, and surcharges that may be included in your upfront price?
Taxes or Fees: You may be charged taxes and/or fees depending on the jurisdiction where your trip starts and/or ends.
Booking Fee: The booking fee is a separate flat fee added to every trip you take on economy products (like uberX or uberPOOL) in most U.S. markets. Booking fees help support regulatory, safety, and operational costs.
Tolls and surcharges: Additional charges may apply to your trip, such as: estimated tolls; surcharges for trips to or from airports, events, seaports, stadiums, and other venues; and surcharges in certain cities that are meant to offset governmental fees imposed on rideshare services. These charges are automatically included in your trip price. Depending on the charge and location, these additional charges may be retained by your driver, paid by your driver to Uber or Uber-related entities, or passed through in whole or in part to a governmental agency or other third parties. Please note that such charges included in your trip price may not match the amount retained by your driver, paid to Uber, or passed through to a third party or government agency; may not correspond to any third-party or government charge; and may relate to charges or inconveniences that occur before or after your trip. For more information, see here.
Long Pickup Fee: Long Pickup Fees apply to pickups that are farther than most, which increases likelihood that drivers will choose to accept requests outside city centers. Long Pickup Fee rates vary by city. Rates are listed on the City Fare Card.
What are some of the taxes, tolls, fees, and charges that may be charged separate from your upfront price?
Wait Time Fee: A per-minute Wait Time fee will begin 2 minutes after your driver arrives at your location. We'll notify you that the charge has started, and it will continue until you enter your vehicle and the driver begins the trip. Wait time fees vary by city and are listed on the City Fare Card. Depending on the jurisdiction, taxes and/or additional fees may apply.
Cancellation Fee: You can cancel a trip at any time before or after you've been paired with a driver, but in some situations, you may be charged a cancellation fee. For uberPOOL trips, a cancellation fee may apply if you cancel 1 or more minutes after you are paired with a driver, or if you do not enter your vehicle within 2 minutes of the driver's arrival at the pickup location. For all other trips, a cancellation fee may apply if you cancel 2 or more minutes after you are paired with a driver, or if you do not enter your vehicle within 5 minutes of the driver’s arrival at the pickup location. Depending on the jurisdiction, taxes and/or additional fees may apply. For more information on cancellations, see our Cancellations help page.
Cleaning Fee: Riders are responsible for damage to the interior or exterior of a vehicle caused by incidents such as vomiting or food spills. Cleaning fees are assessed and charged according to the extent of the damage. Depending on the jurisdiction, taxes and/or additional fees may apply. For more information on cleaning fees, see here.
