Celebrating Women in Fitness this International Women’s Day

March 8, 2017 / Saudi Arabia

This week we are honored to bring you stories of incredible Saudi women who pursue their passion for health, sports and fitness. We are proud to share with you their journeys, challenges and advice.

Meet Amal Baatia.

Health & Fitness have been an interest of Amal’s from a very young age. She joined a gymnastics team when she was a little girl and played all kinds of sports including swimming, tennis and weightlifting. Two years ago, Amal started challenging her herself with Crossfit and Calisthenics.

Sport and health have always been an important part of her life despite her many everyday responsibilities: “Sports helps me reduce everyday stress and it’s a convenient way to calm down and feel happy.”

“Physical activity also builds self-esteem and makes me feel good about myself.”

Amal acknowledges that women encounter many challenges in their everyday lives that could distract them from prioritizing fitness, one of which is balancing work and family. She also adds that transportation and the scarcity of sports facilities also add to those challenges.

“Uber has made my life much easier than it was before.”

However, there have been many positive changes in the past few years. The availability of ride-hailing apps has helped women accomplish their daily tasks: “For me, Uber has made my life much easier than it was before.”
With the increase in resources Amal encourages women to take the first step and challenge themselves and has great advice for them: “An hour a day of physical activity can help you lead a healthier and even happier life. Don’t get easily discouraged because of these obstacles and don’t make excuses. Health and fitness must be your top priority.”
