Introducing Uber Pet – rides for you and your pets 🐾
Uber

Great news! You never need to leave your four-legged friend at home again! Now you can order a ride in the Uber App to get around together.

Whether you’re visiting a friend, seeing the vet or running a quick errand, the Uber app can get you and your pet there in no time.

Comfortable rides with your pet

Just choose Uber Pet when you order your next ride and get around with your pet for a small fee (10 RON)*.

As a courtesy to your independent driver, we recommend that you bring a towel to protect the vehicle’s seats.

Uber Pet is not required if you have a service animal with you

In accordance with the Device and Service Animal Policy, drivers are required to serve passengers with service animals, regardless of the type of ride.

Rider FAQs

  • Uber Pet is limited to one pet per trip. If you have more pets with you, please notify the driver first and it’s up to the driver to decide if they want to take them on the trip.

  • Pets come in all shapes and sizes – furry, feathered or scaley – but Uber Pet is primarily for dogs and cats. Remember that you are fully responsible for controlling your furry friend while on the trip.
Your driver always has the right to refuse animal types beyond dogs and cats and refuse animals they deem unsafe or uncontrolled.

  • Since you’ll be bringing along a pet, Uber Pet trips will cost more than some other options (10 RON additional fee). In addition, if your pet leaves waste, excessive hair, or damages the vehicle, you could be charged a cleaning fee by the driver. To avoid being charged a cleaning fee, see our helpful tips below.

  • Pets are likely to leave a little pet hair or animal odor, in which case a cleaning fee will not apply. But, if your pet has an accident where car cleaning is necessary (urine, feces, vomit, damage, etc.) you will need to pay a cleaning fee.

  • A maximum of two riders and one pet may ride with Uber Pet. Additional riders or pets will be left to the discretion of the driver.

  • No insurance coverage is provided by Uber or the drivers for pets. Your pet rides under your sole responsibility and you are liable for any bodily injury or property damage it may cause to others and their property.

    1. Have your dog or cat restrained with a leash, harness, or placed in a pet carrier. If your pet is not a dog, they will need to be in a carrier.
    2. Help drivers keep vehicles clean for all riders by bringing a blanket/towel to cover the seat and reduce the risk of damage or mess.
    3. Ask your driver if they have a preference for where your pet should sit.
    4. Do not leave your pet unattended.

Driver FAQs

  • Riders with assistance dogs do not have to select Uber Pet. You must always allow assistance dogs in your vehicle to accompany their riders across all of the Uber products without riders paying an additional fare – it’s the law (unless you are medically exempt and hold a valid certificate from your local licensing authority). Assistance dogs provide their owners with assistance to help with a range of disabilities, such as deafness or blindness, not all of which may be immediately apparent.

Please also bear in mind that there is no requirement that an assistance dog wears a tag, be registered, or display any kind of proof that it is an assistance dog. If you knowingly refuse to transport a rider because of their assistance dog, you risk losing access to the Uber app permanently. Uber will also report such drivers to the relevant licensing authority in line with local licensing conditions.

  • Pets come in all shapes and sizes – furry, feathered or scaley – but Uber Pet is suitable for dogs and cats. There may be situations where riders wish to travel with more exotic or less common pets. In this situation, we’ve asked riders to reach out to you before the trip to confirm the type of pet they have and to check you are comfortable with taking the animal. You have the right to refuse any animal you do not feel comfortable riding with (except assistance dogs, as outlined above).

  • To ensure the safety of the driver, riders and animals, we strongly encourage all riders to use a lead, harness or pet carrier during the trip. Riders are fully responsible for controlling their pet while on the trip.

  • For minor issues related to pet hair, animal odour, or typical wear-and-tear, a cleaning fee will not apply. In the case of those incidents where car cleaning is necessary (e.g. urine, faeces, vomit etc.), you are still eligible to obtain cleaning fee via standard Uber support channels in the Uber Driver app.

  • It will be left to your discretion to either continue with the trip (Uber Pet rates will not apply) or kindly ask the rider to cancel the trip and request an Uber Pet ride. However, we do not guarantee that the rider will be matched with you again.

Remember, you are still legally required to accept riders with assistance dogs (e.g. guide dogs) on all rides without an extra fee – these riders do not have to select Uber Pet.

  • We encourage you to have a mat or blanket ready in the boot of your car for Uber Pet trips – you can lay this over the seat and feet areas in the back of your car. Remember to remove the mat or blanket after completing the Uber Pet trip in preparation for your next rider.

  • You can opt-in/opt-out of Uber Pet by turning it on (or off) in the Driving Preferences section of the app.

  • No, riders must accompany their pets at all times and must remain on trip with the pet.
