Uber And PITB Sign MoU To Promote The Effective Use Of Technology Across Lahore
20 April 2016 / PakistanOn March 3rd 2016, Uber in Lahore set in motion the process of transforming the very core of it’s urban mobility structure for its millions of residents, by introducing an affordable and reliable way to move around the city.
The impact of Uber’s technology has found an ideal hub in Lahore. With it’s support for fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, Lahore is already seeing a transformational impact on the livelihoods of thousands of driver partners and their families.
Earlier today, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Punjab Information Technology Board to explore the technology and economic opportunities that can be brought to Punjab, and later to all of Pakistan.
At the ceremony, Loic Amado, Sr. International Launcher for Uber emphasised that “PITB, under the helm of Dr. Umar Saif and Uber have a similar long term vision for how technology can enable safety, reliability and economic opportunity and build the smart cities of the future. We believe the MoU is an outstanding example of what can be achieved when the private sector and civil society work together with the best interest of the local communities at heart.”
We recently announced a $250 million investment in the MENA region and Pakistan with a portion of the investment going to expansion across Pakistan, in addition to building out a larger team and wider network of driver partners.
The MoU is the first of its kind collaboration to be taking place, and will be part of a long term collaboration for both organisations.
This is an exciting time for Uber in Lahore and we hope you will continue to support us on our ride ahead.
