Airports can be complicated places, especially for drivers. But knowing the basics, and getting information in advance about your local airport, can help make sure you’re prepared for your first pickup or dropoff.

How to receive requests

To operate at the airport, Wellington Airport requires you to comply with its rules and procedures. You’ll need to familiarise yourself with them; failure to do so could result in you no longer being able to conduct pick-ups or drop-offs at the airport.

How pickups work at Wellington Airport

**STARTING 19 MARCH 2024, you will be able to pick-up your rider kerbside at Wellington Airport. ** 1. Enter the virtual queue

To place yourself in the airport queue, head to the designated Uber Holding Lot and open the Uber app. Follow the airport and in app directions where can access the Holding Lot via Stewart Duff Drive, turn right into the car park after Gatehouse Lane and proceed to the dedicated Uber Holding Lot Bays. Once you are in the virtual queue, you will see a number range at the top of your screen indicating where you are in the queue.

Trips will be received by driver-partners on a first in, first out basis, meaning driver-partners who have been waiting the longest get the requests first.

Once you are at the front of the queue, you will receive the next available trip request.

2. Accept a trip request and head to the airport terminal

Once you are at the front of the queue, you will receive the next available trip request. In order to meet your rider, follow the navigation to the kerbside pick-up area.

The pickup area is located at the secondary kerbside ourside the arrivals hall. Start by following the navigation to the appropriate pickup area. Enter the pre-booked taxi area through the boom gate, turn right, and look out for signs showing the designated Uber zone.

3. Locate your rider and exit the airport

Once your rider is in the car, you can begin the trip as you normally would. To exit the airport, exit via the public pickup lane on Level 0.

Dropoffs at the airport

Rides to Wellington Airport

Follow the signs to the Public Drop Off Lane and drop passengers in either the first (Taxi) or the second lane from the Terminal (the Public Drop Off Lane).

Airport Fees

Wellington Airport requires that all driver-partners picking up or dropping off passengers pay a $5.00 fee. This is in line with the fee charged by Wellington Airport to small passenger services providing pickups and dropoffs.

This fee will be automatically added to your rider’s fare for any trips that involve pickups or dropoffs at the Wellington Airport, so you will not be out of pocket. Collection of this fee from driver partners on behalf of Wellington Airport, and payment to Wellington Airport, will be handled by Uber; driver partners will not be required to pay anything directly to the Airport.

If you are a GST-registered driver-partner, you should be able to claim the GST component of the per-trip airport fee. To understand more about airport fees and how they should be reflected in your tax return, you can contact your tax advisor.
