About the Role


We are in need of an experienced HR leader with significant experience in North Asia, to support the development and growth of our Employee Relations practice within the People Operations Organisation. This role will be a senior level individual contributor working across Uber’s APAC region and based in either Hong Kong, Singapore or Tokyo.  The role will support Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan and will report to our Director of Employee Relations, APAC.

The right person will thrive in an "all hands on deck" environment, love solving people and employment related issues and be able to pivot quickly.  This role is all about developing Employee Relations practices, processes & strategy and providing deep subject matter expertise in addressing employment and employee relations issues across the APAC region more broadly.  Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

What You'll Do

  • Implement sound resolutions to complex employee relations issues.
  • Provide high level practical and tactical advice to business leaders on ER matters including: performance management, dispute resolution, terminations, re-organisation & consultation, and HR policies, guidelines and practices acting.
  • Employment law interpretation (eg, contracts / policies / modern awards & the labour code) acting as a triage point before matters reach employment legal. 
  • Remain abreast of legislative and case law developments, and provide updates to the business in conjunction with Employment Legal.
  • Evaluate and review employment decisions in response to employee concerns.
  • Design and conduct disciplinary investigations and develop appropriate remediations.
  • Identify industrial and employment risks and provide risk management recommendations.  
  • Design and conduct training for HR and management on management/HR practices.
  • Design and implement trending analysis and ER metrics model.
  • Directly handling a caseload of highly complex ER matters and investigations.
    Developing and driving HR initiatives - employment practice improvement, training, metrics/trending and HR analytics.
  • Providing strategy, technical expertise and direction to HR partners and managers around management practices, ER and Org Effectiveness.

What You’ll Need

  • 7+ years of ER, HR or Legal experience within APAC; preferably within a high tech growth environment.
  • 5+ years directly managing complex employee relations issues or advising corporate clients around employment practices in Asia.
  • Solid understanding of Japanese employee relations considerations and employment laws.  
  • Exposure to employee relations considerations and employment laws across Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea.
  • BA with preference for JD, MBA/MA or Advanced Degree in Employment Law, Human Resources or Employee Relations/Labour Relations.
  • Must be able to travel, including short-term assignments based upon business requirements.

  • Experience managing employee relations issues and advising corporate clients around employment practices.
  • Experience improving and designing HR related processes.
  • Knowledge and experience in technology businesses including a familiarity with global HR practices and policies.
  • Strong problem solving abilities and tenacity to build solutions from scratch.
  • Flexibility to be proactive in a fast paced, ever changing environment.
  • Japanese language skills.
