On 3-4 November 2017, the people of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch came together to support the Nappy Drive – a collaboration between Uber, Plunket, and The Baby Bag.
Together, we collected over 55,000 nappies!
Your nappy donations will go towards supporting the daily needs, health, and wellbeing of around 1,300 families across New Zealand who are living in low income or disadvantaged households.
Uber General Manager Richard Menzies says the response was huge, with more than double the anticipated number of nappies donated.
“Some households had hundreds of unused nappies lying around that would have otherwise have ended up in landfills. People were relieved they would instead go to families who needed them.”
“The Nappy Drive was a really simple idea, bringing together three complementary organisations to collect, sort and distribute an essential item to local families. There was some pretty complex technology behind it, but it the end it was old fashioned Kiwi community spirit that made it successful,” he added.
Donations by city
- Wellingtonians proved to have the most unused nappies at home, with an average donation of 230 nappies.
- The average Auckland donation was 90 nappies per Uber pick-up
- Christchurch followed closely behind, donating 80 nappies per household.
- Local businesses donated too, with Huggies contributing a huge 20 pallets worth of nappies. We also collected donations from PAKnSAVE, Treasures and Rascal+Friends.
Plunket Sponsorship Manager Nin Roberts says the drive showed how one idea could make a difference in the lives of families.
“It was great to see the campaign come to life, from the UBER driver-partners delivering the nappies through to the sorting and then finally seeing the reaction of the Plunket nurses when the nappies were dropped off so they could give them to families,” she said.
