How ratings work when you ride with us

For each trip you take with Uber, your driver gives you a rating, and the average of these ratings is your overall rating. Here’s everything you need to know about how ratings work and why they matter.

At the end of each trip, the app prompts riders and driver-partners to give a rating from 1 to 5 stars, and any additional feedback. Your driver rates their trip with you, and you have the chance to rate your driver.

The rating system helps ensure the comfort and safety of the Uber experience. When you rate your driver, we use this as feedback to let them know what they are doing well, as well as what they might want to improve. We take ratings very seriously; riders and driver-partners with low ratings may even lose access to the Uber app as explained in Uber’s Community Guidelines.

Most riders provide a 5 star rating unless there was an issue with the ride. Ratings are usually based on things like ease of pickup, quality of service, vehicle condition or driver behaviour.

It’s best not to rate a driver-partner based on things outside of their control like traffic or road works. If a driver-partner gets in touch with us, we may correct feedback and ratings for issues like fare amount, traffic conditions or app issues and these will not impact the driver-partner’s overall rating.

★★★★★ – A normal trip where you got from A to B with minimal issues.

★★★★ –  There was an issue with your trip.

★★★ – You were disappointed with your trip.

★★ – Your trip needed major improvements.

★ – There was a very serious problem with your trip.
