About the Role


Uber ATG is preparing for operations at scale, and we are looking for an Engineering Manager with expertise in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Software Systems, to join our AVMaps Automation team. The Automation team is responsible for automating the digital map building process by developing ML/CV systems and tools.  The systems you are responsible for are fundamental for Uber’s ability to scale up the self driving initiative and begin operating at scale. We have an opportunity for an experienced leader to manage multiple Software Engineering teams responsible for creating the HD Map for our fleet of Self Driving Cars.

What You’ll Do


  • Provide Technical Leadership in the areas of Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Software Systems for an Engineering Team in Pittsburgh. 
  • Collaborate effectively and build relationships with ATG partners in Boulder, Toronto, and San Francisco
  • Partner with technical leads across ATG and AVMaps to help identify opportunities, gather requirements, and lead a technology roadmap and vision for the team
  • Mentor the team on design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of map feature generation algorithms that run on self-driving Uber vehicles
  • Partner with other Machine Learning teams across ATG to support best practices
  • Establish and manage processes for efficient team execution
  • Responsible for the hiring and career development of the automation team


What You’ll Need


  • PhD in Computer Vision, Robotics, ML, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience with a track record of shipping high-impact engineering solutions
  • Prior experience managing a team of roboticists, CV/ML scientists and software engineers
  • People management experience nurturing careers, managing under- and over-performers, influencing cross-functional teams, recruiting and building teams
  • Ability to work with Engineering leads across the ATG on architectures and system designs.
  • Experience in computer vision, machine learning, mapping technologies, or related technical fields
  • Experience transitioning research artifacts to production environments
  • Prior technical leadership and management experience
