In 2022, our mobility business roared back post pandemic, while the delivery business continued to grow healthily while expanding into new verticals. We facilitated more than 7.6 billion trips and provided flexible earnings opportunities for more than 5.4 million drivers and couriers. Simply put, the power of the Uber platform has never been more evident.
Importantly, our team delivered this while continuing to lead from the front on the key environmental, social and governance metrics that matter to our stakeholders.
On sustainability, we more than tripled the number of electric vehicles on the platform and connected 31 million unique riders with a ride in an electric vehicle. The Science Based Targets initiative also approved our 1.5°C degree aligned near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets, making us one of the first 30 US-based companies to have such targets approved.
We introduced new programs to help the communities and cities we operate in. In 2022, our Access Fund helped 54 organizations across 16 countries with transportation access to access essential goods and services, and we expanded our Vaccine Access Fund to support broader access to essential health care services via the Health Access Fund. In addition, we responded on the ground in Ukraine, and showed up for communities affected in more than a dozen disasters worldwide, including Hurricane Ian in Florida and the floods in Bangladesh and Pakistan.
We also continued to invest in our most important resource, our people. Despite an environment of reduced hiring, we broadly maintained our progress in increasing female and URP talent. Women now account for 42.6% of our global team while people from underrepresented backgrounds make up 23.8% of our US team. We know it isn’t enough to simply attract diverse talent – we remain focused on developing, building and advancing that talent within Uber.
Above this, we have maintained a strong governance culture and structure, with 90% independent directors, females comprising 40% of our board, and 30% of our board coming from under-represented racial or ethnic groups. All above S&P 500 industry averages.

Other key highlights include:
- Expanded our green options to over 200 cities worldwide with riders taking 77 million trips in zero emissions vehicles on the Uber platform
- Published our third Climate Assessment and Performance Report and disclosed global Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions
- Launched an emissions tracking dashboard for Uber for Business customers
- Provided 114,000 free rides and moved 1.5 million pounds of food, water, and essential supplies for community rescue, relief, and recovery in 2022.
- Pioneered new safety tech, including audio and video recording, to help keep people safe
- Advocated on behalf of drivers and couriers in markets around the world to preserve the flexibility of work while expanding access to benefits and protections
- Increased leadership representation among under-represented populations by 1.5%
- Increased women at Manager level and above to 31% and under-represented populations in the US at Senior analyst level and above to 13%
