At Uber, we strive to make your ride as comfortable and smooth as possible – and that, of course, also includes payments. Uber was designed with card payment in mind, but there are a variety of ways to pay for a ride in the rainbow nation. So, it’s time for a quick guide to Uber payment options in the Netherlands.
New: pay with Apple Pay
As of June 2019 it’s possible to pay for your Uber rides with Apple Pay. This means that you can now use your debit card as a payment method as well.
How does it work?
Connect your Apple Pay account to a bank that supports Apple Pay. Navigate to the option ‘Payments’ in the menu of your Uber-app and check if you see the Apple Pay logo at the payment options section. Not visible? Double-check if you have the latest version of the Uber-app and if your Apple Pay account is connected to a valid debit card.
Pay Uber with your credit card
Paying for rides the simple way with the original Uber payment method. With your card registered and selected in the app, any payments for rides will be automatically charged to the card. It couldn’t be easier!
When you create an Uber account, you will be asked to enter a card or other payment method for use on rides. If you’d like to add a new card, just select “Payment” on the app menu, tap “Add Payment” and then select card. You can then enter your card details manually or scan your card in with your device’s camera.
Need to edit your card details? You can change the expiration date, security code or billing address of a credit card in the app. If you need to change the card number, you can remove the card from your account and then add another as a new payment method. Make sure your details are always up-to-date and use your current email address, telephone number and bank details.
Pay with PayPal
If you do not have a credit card or would rather not use your card details to pay for a journey, you can also use PayPal to pay for an Uber ride.
To register PayPal to your Uber account, head to the “Payment” section, select “Add Payment Method” and select the service you would like to add. From there, you will have to go through some extra verification, but once set up, payments will be processed through PayPal after a ride just as if you were using your card.

Tip: Check the app during your ride to select your desired payment method is selected. Swipe from bottom to top to swap between any of your various payment methods at the bottom of the screen before the end of a ride.
Whether you’ve just switched to a different bank or have just started using PayPal, just pick a payment option and you’re ready to ride.
