Media update: Lagos safety incident

April 4, 2018 / Nigeria

We are aware of the alleged safety-related incident involving an Uber rider’s mother and are investigating internally to ensure that the appropriate action is taken.

What’s being described is deeply upsetting and would be in clear violation of our Community Guidelines. Upon being made aware of this issue, our Incident Response Team who are trained to deal with any critical safety issues, reached out to the rider to resolve the issue and offer our full support. When we receive reports of this nature, the driver’s access to the Uber application is suspended pending the outcome of the police investigation.

The safety of riders and driver-partners is our top priority, and we are committed to ensuring that your experience with Uber is as smooth as possible. If any incidents are ever reported, we work tirelessly to support local authorities in their respective investigations.

Feedback is one way we can learn about any potential issues that may have occurred. After every trip, drivers and riders alike are asked to rate each other and provide feedback. Our safety team then reviews this information and investigates any possible issues. For additional information on our safety guidelines, kindly refer to our Community Guidelines here.

More on Uber’s Safety Features
We are deeply committed to the safety of both riders and driver-partners. It’s why we have made safety features like GPS tracking (of every trip) a reality. We have also made it possible for riders to share their ETA (estimated time of arrival) with their loved ones. Riders are able to check driver-partner details such as their name and picture as well as vehicle details (type, model, colour, registration).

Our Incident Response Team (IRT) is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond immediately to any reported incidents or accidents globally.
