At Uber, we strive to provide reliable, safe and affordable transport options for everyone at the tap of a button. That is why today we are launching uberASSIST, a special service offers assistance to senior citizens and individuals with disabilities.

Some people in Macau have a hard time getting around. The 2011 census revealed there were more than 11,000 people with disabilities in the city,  an increase of almost 3,000 compared to 2006. Macau’s population is also aging. In 2016, people 65 and over accounted for 9 percent of the population.

“We’re thrilled to launch the uberASSIST,” said Trasy Walsh Lou, General Manager of Uber Macau. “It is a great example of how innovative ideas can benefit our city and give people with accessibility needs greater choice and control in their day to day activities. People who require additional physical support now have greater independence and opportunities to access suitable transport to help them get involved with the community.”

uberASSIST is launched in a partnership with a number of charity groups in Macau.  More than 100 driver partners have been trained to help people with different accessibility needs. These include how to better communicate with the hard of hearing, assist visually impaired and others in needs into vehicles and accommodate folding wheelchairs, walkers and scooters. For riders, uberASSIST is just the tap of a button away and the price is the same as a regular Uber ride.

uberASSIST is now available the US, UK, Australia, India, Singapore, Hong Kong and more. The service has been very well received by both passengers and driver partners in these  markets and we’re looking forward to bringing benefits of uberASSIST to more people in our community.
