2021 marks Uber’s seventh year in Hong Kong. In the last seven years, Uber has transformed the way people go everywhere and earn anywhere. Since 2014, Uber has moved riders around Hong Kong for more than 800 million kilometres – equivalent to driving along the city’s perimeter for 700 thousand times or nearly 300 thousand one-way flights from Hong Kong to Tokyo. We are proud to have provided safe and reliable transportation to over one third of Hong Kong’s population.

“We started off with a simple mission – to offer Hong Kongers a ride at the tap of a button. Seven years on, Uber has now become a mobility platform well integrated as part of Hong Kong riders’ everyday transportation option. It is also a reliable platform for driver-partners to take home additional income. In the past 18 months, we have partnered with industry leaders and the taxi sector to further strengthen innovation in e-hailing. We have also redesigned our safety features to help better protect both our riders and driver-partners.” said Estyn Chung, General Manager of Uber Hong Kong.

“Seven years is a milestone for us and our loyal users, but we are also just getting started. My team and I will continue to reimagine the way the world moves for the better by using technology to connect the physical and digital world. Going forward, it is our mission to continue to evolve into a mobility platform for riders to go anywhere, anyhow, and any-way.”

Go everywhere with Uber

Making every ride a smooth and convenient experience for our riders is what drives our team every day. We have provided close to 290,000 elderly and special needs riders with Uber Assist journeys, driven by dedicated driver-partners who go the extra mile to help the underserved community. Since August 2020, over 100,000 furry paws and tails have taken Uber Pet trips, and a single rider has taken 344 paw-fect rides since launch, averaging to around more than 24 Uber Pet trips per month!

We thank our riders for relying on Uber for their everyday commute. In the last 12 months, a single rider took 152 trips in just one week, an average of 21 trips a day! Hot days do not stop riders from going out — we recorded the most number of trips on May 29, followed by May 22 and May 15, 2021 — some of the hottest days of the year.

Uber + Taxi, better together

Currently, Hong Kong’s Uber Taxi business is ranked No.1 across the globe and contributes to over 25% of the global Uber Taxi business. From launching Uber Flash in 2019 to Uber Taxi in 2020 and most recently our partnership with HKTaxi – we believe Uber and Taxi are better together, and can collectively rejuvenate the industry’s growth. We are doubling down on our investment in the taxi industry, working with industry stakeholders to enhance taxi’s overall service quality, and dedicating resources to drive e-hail adoption in the city. Since the launch of Uber Taxi, driver-partner sign up has grown 27x and active taxi driver-partners have grown 8x. Uber Taxi driver-partners have also provided top-notch quality services with an average rating of 4.8 out of 5.

Uber Taxi riders thanking driver-partners for their excellent services:

“A very polite and excellent driver, extremely clean vehicle. He noticed that I had to use a walking stick. Not only did he not rush me, he told me to take my time.
A very pleasant taxi experience 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻”

“Wonderful Uber taxi service, with a cozy taxi cab and perfect driving skills, ensuring our pleasant ride home tonight. Truly commendable!”

Earning platform of choice for driver-partners

We thank driver-partners for moving what matters especially in the last 18 months, offering safe rides when we need them most. Platform work is more than a means to an end. In the past seven years, Uber has provided an extra source of income for over 216,000 registered Uber and Uber Taxi driver-partners. They are also given the flexibility to start and stop work at their discretion. This is what Uber takes pride in. Since September 2020, we’ve seen a 12% increase in new driver-partner signups.

Uber driver-partners have an average rating of 4.9 out of 5. In the last 12 months, riders have offered a total of HK$8 million in tips to thank driver-partners for their impeccable services.
