Over 50,000 Meals and Rides in Times of Need

Today, Uber is announcing a new initiative to offer free meals to support healthcare professionals and supporting staff of the seven major acute hospitals under the Hospital Authority clusters as an appreciation to them for combating COVID-19.  In addition, Uber is also offering free rides to communities in need in Hong Kong. This is a part of Uber’s “Move What Matters” global commitment to provide 10 million rides and food deliveries around the world.

“Hong Kong has been badly impacted by COVID-19. As a company deeply embedded in the city and the lives of its people, we are all too aware of the challenges facing the community now. After carefully considering where our services make the biggest impact, we’re pleased to launch our local initiative to help.” says Estyn Chung, General Manager of Uber for Hong Kong.

Standing behind our healthcare heroes

While Hong Kongers are doing their part by staying home to flatten the curve of transmission, our frontline healthcare workers are working around the clock, dedicating their best efforts to save lives.

To thank healthcare workers for their dedication in safeguarding our health, Uber Eats is donating 44,000 free meals to healthcare professionals and supporting staff of the seven major acute hospitals of the clusters, for distribution in partnership with the Hospital Authority. We hope that we can do our part in helping our healthcare heroes recharge with a hearty meal from over 6,400 registered restaurant-partners on the platform.

“HA is very grateful to the kindness and thoughtfulness of Uber Eats for the appreciation to the relentless efforts of our staff at this challenging time and supporting them in fighting against the COVID-19 disease and taking care of the patients,” says Hospital Authority.

Doubling down efforts to support local NGOs

Standing by the underserved in Hong Kong, we pledge to help NGOs move their members around in safety and comfort. Today, we are donating 10,000 free rides to non-government organisations (NGOs) in Hong Kong.

During this challenging time, we have witnessed teams from NGOs withstand their commitment to help their beneficiaries navigate around the city for work, medical visits, and other essential appointments. Uber wants to make sure people facing greater challenges when moving around the city — senior members, those with disabilities or in underprivileged communities — have access to barrier-free point-to-point transportation options.

We are inviting all NGOs who serve these communities in need to contact us via hkcommunity@uber.com, or visit http://t.uber.com/hkfrm to apply for free rides for their beneficiaries.

Walking side by side with Hong Kongers

Uber is committed to walk side-by-side with Hongkongers on the road to recovery and will continue to evolve our relief measures to support the local community. We are grateful to all driver-partners, delivery-partners and restaurant-partners who are helping us move what matters most during this unprecedented time.
