Before you get started
Renewal applications can take up to eight weeks for TfL to process. Because of this, we recommend you start applying as soon as you receive your renewal pack in the post.
Your renewal pack should arrive around four months before the date your license expiry. Haven’t received it yet? Contact TfL on 0343 222 4444 who’ll be able to help.
Here’s our step-by-step guide to renewing your licence.
Your first step is to undertake a criminal record check by applying for a DBS certificate. The certificate must be obtained through GBG group and your application can be started online. For instructions on how to complete, watch the video below.
If you are subscribed to the DBS update service you should not need to apply for a new disclosure certificate, unless TfL advises otherwise.
Once you’ve applied for your DBS, we recommend you apply for your licence renewal online instead of via the post.
To do so, you’ll need to register for an account on TfL’s website. Details of how to do so will be included in the renewal pack which you’ll receive in the post.
Once you’ve applied, you’ll be able to track the progress of your application online.
If you’ve got questions about your renewal application, feel free to talk to one of our Experts in person at one of our Greenlight Hubs. No appointment needed - just drop in.
