About the Role
Are you ready to join us on a once-in-a-career, incredibly fun ride? Do you enjoy working in an entrepreneurial culture? We’re looking for an exceptional attorney to join our New Mobility (NeMo) Legal team that will help Uber evolve into a multi-modal platform. This attorney will be lead counsel for a brand new business Uber is launching in New Mobility. You will partner with business stakeholders, engineers, product managers, cross functional leaders and specialist teams to support this new business. The position is based in San Francisco.
What You’ll Do
Support a dynamic organization of sales, operations, engineering design, product managers, and cross functional team members who are building and scaling the new business.
Provide guidance to product teams on issues related to new and existing products and features to assess legal compliance in several jurisdictions, from the early stages of product development through launch and expansion to new markets.
Spot issues and provide counsel in a wide range of legal areas: employment, commercial, product liability, go-to-market, privacy and data protection.
Play an important role in shaping policies and processes to help the new business scale as the business continues to grow, as well as drive compliance initiatives.
Draft, negotiate and own a variety of agreements including master services, purchase, vendor services, and other commercial agreements.
Liaise with internal legal teams such as regulatory, employment, insurance, compliance, corporate and litigation to be able to respond to and resolve business critical issues. You will take the lead to effectively and promptly resolve all issues.
What You’ll Need
8+ years of experience in large firm private practice and/or in-house role. Some in-house experience preferred.
J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state is required.
Experience with legal compliance and regulatory compliance, employment, privacy, consumer protection and issues in other highly regulated industries. International legal and regulatory compliance experience is a plus.
Product counseling experience working for an engineering-driven technology company preferred.
Experience with handling a variety of commercial deals with sophisticated parties.
Experience working with or in staffing companies or technology companies is a major plus, as is experience with worker reclassification issues.
Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to present information/complex legal matters clearly, and concisely.
Strong execution and project management skills and ability to corral stakeholders from across the organization on cross-functional projects.
Must be a self-starter who possesses a strong work ethic, be highly organized, be able to handle multiple activities simultaneously.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure, juggle multiple projects with contending priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to change in a dynamic environment.
Must be confident, collaborative, and able to operate in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated business aptitude and ability to move quickly across a large matrixed organization.
Flexibility to perform in nimble, rapidly changing and growing environments; highly adaptable with attention to scaling.
Inquisitiveness, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address.
Strong communication skills and demonstrated experience working with business leaders.
Collaborative approach with both business and legal groups, with strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility, understand and appreciate the business cost/benefit analysis for various legal recommendations, and partner with others.
