About the Role

 

 

Uber's Global Trade Compliance team is based in San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Amsterdam, and soon to be Hong Kong. We hold the line on financial sanctions, embargoes, customs/import, export controls, and anti-boycott across Uber's footprint. We provide compliance insight and regulatory expertise along with operational support to all Uber business units, at the cutting edge of Uber's global initiatives to change the way the world thinks about transportation. What You’ll Do
  • Responsibilities/Tasks: 

    -Independently manage product classification pursuant to U.S. Commerce Control List (CCL) and global Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) for Uber’s various lines of business as a standalone program as part of Uber’s Global Trade Compliance organization. Determine and apply global customs classifications and export classifications for various products, software, and components.

    -Oversee comprehensive audit program and quality standards for global classification to support fast-paced business environment and global product expansion. Assesses classification performance of larger global team and drives operational efficiencies with focus on Oracle Global Trade Management tools.

    -Be a trusted business advisor using in-depth trade compliance expertise for Uber’s core Rider and Driver App, Uber Freight, Elevate, UberEats, New Mobility, and other engineering teams for change management on revisions and to mitigate risk to lines of business.

    -Works directly with and embedded into Engineering, Business Development, Product, Operations, and Logistics teams to educate business partners on trade compliance and deeply understand products pre-launch. Collects and documents information necessary for product classification in preparation for global product launches.

    -Reviews open source projects for eligibility and constraints for Uber’s GitHub programs and conducts annual reporting for encryption product classification pursuant to U.S. Dept. of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security requirements.

    -Prepare and submit export or import license applications for the U.S., Singapore, Hong Kong, France, Israel, the European Union as needed based on classifications and end use/end user.

    -Develop and implement processes to ensure compliance with all applicable Governmental Agencies, and to ensure compliance with Uber internal policy regarding Trade Compliance.

    -Apply Rules of Origin for specific countries in order to determine preferential or non-preferential origin, and assesses accuracy of valuation for goods shipping internationally.

     

     

 

What You’ll Need

 

About the Team

Certifications and Qualifications: 6+  years experience in Trade Compliance and product classification against Commerce Control List, US Harmonized Tariff Schedule, US Munitions List.  Professional Trade Certification highly recommended (Licensed Customs Broker, CUSECO, etc.)

 

Desired Traits: Strong Compliance focus a must.  A successful candidate for this position will be able to balance this with rapid customer focus, and will require minimal direction.  The ability to read and accurately interpret Government regulations is mandatory. Experience with Oracle GTM module required, providing training and education on global trade topics preferred.
