About the Role


The Systems Engineering & Testing (SE&T) team at UATG is charged with answering,  “What does the system need to do, what is the architecture, how is it performing, and when do we release it?”  We are the cross-functional, technical interface between Product, Safety, Hardware, Software, and Operations groups.  Our goal is to ensure unbiased, holistic, and cross-functional design that optimizes across domains. We do this by analyzing data on where our vehicles operate, and collaborating closely with key stakeholders and subject matter experts throughout the organization to architect solutions.  To evaluate our performance, we develop and execute a comprehensive strategy that combines simulation, laboratory / HIL, closed track, and open road testing. Finally, we believe in collaborating with and adapting industry best practices while providing continuous delivery and improvement of our process, tools, and artifacts as we learn more about this evolving technology and industry.


As an Autonomy Systems Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for performance analysis and verification of the ATG autonomy platform in test, simulation, on track and public road testing.  You will support ATG efforts with clear and concise data that provides unambiguous feedback in order to assist driving prioritization within autonomy engineering via informed data driven decisions. You have the curiosity to always ask “why?” and the skills and drive to find the answer. You will also be an advocate for and owner of engineering internal and ATG-wide processes and tooling that enable higher quality and efficiency of all autonomy systems performance analysis efforts.

What You'll Need


  • Fluency or deep competency in:
    • Leading system/design/software Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), or other risk assessments from inception
    • Diverse testing methods including simulation, Hardware-In-Loop (HIL), laboratory, track, and field testing
    • Consistently demonstrating creativity, practicality, and maturity in approaching system safety
    • Provide frequent, simple and clear written and verbal communication of complex ideas to internal teams, peers and stakeholders
    • Process engineering and tooling design to enable highly accurate and efficient results for all autonomy software performance analysis efforts
    • Analysis of large, complex data sets


  • Previous experience and demonstrated success:
    • Collaboration with a diverse, cross-functional team across multiple geographic locations
    • Effective adaptation of standard systems engineering processes to unique new technology applications
    • Training engineering & systems analyst teams and building relationships in support of safety processes and culture
    • Making complex, data driven decisions when working on large integrated software systems in test
    • Sophisticated, mission-critical hardware or software within automotive or another industry (e.g., aerospace, defense, medical, transportation)


  • Prior experience should include:
    • BS or MS degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or another relevant engineering field
        • OR 3+ years of highly relevant industry experience
    • Senior Candidates will have:
        • 7+ years of relevant industry experience
        • BS or MS degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or another relevant engineering field


  • Bonus points for:
    • Experience building highly-reliable and scalable products in Full Stack JavaScript
    • Experience in data science
    • Experience with API designs, integration with databases and working in large datasets.
    • Developing capabilities using Python scripts to provide seamless integrated solutions across technologies.
