How to have a low-key New Year’s Eve in Montreal

December 19, 2017 / Montreal

New Year’s Eve is quickly approaching, but you don’t have to spend a ton of cash or get caught up in huge crowds to have a good time. Montreal offers plenty of alternative ways to ring in 2018.

Where to go in Montreal for a chill NYE

1. Mount Royal

Head to the top of Mount Royal for an unbeatable view of New Year’s Eve fireworks. There are two panoramic viewpoints overlooking the city, both of which will give you a front-row seat to the beautiful displays lighting up the sky. There are a number of ways to reach the top of the mountain, but walking is half the fun. It’s hard to beat this location for a number of reasons: it offers amazing views, it’s romantic, and it’s completely free.

2. Old Port

Montreal’s picturesque Old Port hosts a lively New Year’s Eve celebration every year, offering a giant ice-skating rink, free concerts, and a fireworks display. There’s no need to go home after the clock strikes midnight because DJs will be spinning tunes until 2am. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, because Jacques-Cartier Quay will be transformed into a huge dance floor. This annual party is a local favorite, as it offers something for the entire family.

3. City Lights Snowshoe Excursion

You’ll feel as though you’ve been let in on a Montreal secret when you take this snowshoe tour up Mount Royal. The guides will introduce you to lesser-known trails and hidden vantage points that give great views of the city. Trekking on snowshoes is a relaxing way to enjoy the wintry weather while also burning a few calories. Be sure to take a camera, as you’ll want to document the experience and the scenery around you.

Your food will arrive straight to your door, allowing you to focus on having fun and celebrating with loved ones. The best part is that you can easily order from your favorite restaurants with the touch of an app. Whether you’re craving noodles or nachos, Uber Eats has you covered.
